PSA: Dog Mode unsecure!! Door opened by dogs

I bought the CYBERTRUCK PET LINER and I was very disappointed with the quality of the seat cover but impressed with the door covers so I kept the door covers in place and bought a different seat cover that has a hard bottom that extends the back seat giving my dogs more stable, walkable room, the zip-up sides to contain the dog hair, it's water proof, has a large mesh area that allows the A/C to blow directly at the dogs. It's not an exact fit but works great to satisfy my needs for a good quality pet liner. I bought it from Amazon, link below.

So your door covers don't pop out unintentionally all the time? Mine are easily dislodged.

I don't understand all the negativity on this thread. Tesla dog mode is one of the many reasons I only buy Teslas now--it's industry changing for dog owners.

A very valid problem was presented.
Multiple very valid and simple solutions given by community members that are just trying help you out.

Amen! At first, my wife was not interested in me getting a Cybertruck. But then, I told her about dog mode and showed her the Tesla commercial about it and she was then super excited for me to get the CT. Tesla is a software company and this sounds like an easy fix. Heck they could even put a little graphic on the screen on how to unlock the door with the latch, if humans being "trapped" is the issue. Again, why the heck are humans in the car during dog mode? So many other options to be in if the driver left the truck to go to the store or something.

The door covers popped out when I first put them in place but, after I reconfigured the plastic hook anchors, the door covers have stayed put.
When you pull back the door panel at the base of the back interior window you can see 2 different layers. One layer rests against the glass and the interior door panel is on top of the layer that is resting on the glass. I placed the plastic hooks in-between those two layers so the raising and lowering of the glass does not affect the door panel hooks.

I hope they do something about this. Wish someone who has contact with Tesla can inform them and update this Dog Mode function. Nobody can get locked in the truck using the screen, phone, key card or manual pull levers so being trapped is not an issue if that's why they chose to allow door locks to be used still.

I believe that it is called Child Lock for the rear seats and it's not possible with the front seats due to the need to escape.

This came up a few years ago. Dog mode used to allow windows to work as well and people complained, so Tesla disabled the windows, but not the doors. The assumption was due to egress issues. People complained, but Tesla hasn't budged on that one and it's doubtful they ever will.

Generally you're not allowed to make the door latches disabled in modern cars.

There's definitely a cross-wise problem: Blaming manufacturers and rivers for people (and dogs) who unlock the door as well as blaming them for those who were trapped and unable to read instructions.

Locally, a rather important case changed state law on open alcohol in livery and busses: It's not allowed anymore after a drunk woman opened the emergency exit on our four lane highway and was killed. The jury found the driver responsible (which seemed like BS to me.)

But federally, they look at that instance versus people trapped in cars in accidents and in hot spaces and decided that was the bigger risk.

I just know why they made those choice, and why it's default. I don't know which is better.

what's your point? against Dog Mode locking all doors, windows and preventing a dog/cat from opening the doors/windows?

My dog also opened the door looking at me leaving with paws on the nice pedestal with a door button. No child lock was enabled. I believe it's ok to disable the door buttons if there is an override handle to pull it open (which we do have) in case a human stays behind with a dog for some reason.

Whatever, that’s nothing like the time I had my 2-year old in the car while I was washing it at a manual car wash and she was dancing around in delight as I sprayed the car and I suddenly heard the sound of all the doors locking with the keys inside.

That’s a you issue. What if there is an emergency and a person needs to get out of the vehicle? Tesla cannot software lock the doors from use. That’s illegal AF

I thought we were talking about Dog Mode not Person in Back Seat Mode (maybe there should be one, there must be a Child Mode of some kind). It makes sense for Dog Mode to apply to the rear doors and windows even if they can climb into the front seat. I use Dog Mode almost every day and have not had an issue yet. It is great! I agree that Tesla should update the documentation, and I think that adding rear door locks while Dog Mode is active is a good idea.

Lots of people giving their opinion here without actually having any confirmed or verified information, so I'll add mine. My guess is that this is not a matter of tesla not thinking through the feature or the use case, but rather, as others have suggested, a legal issue. I'm betting there is a federal safety requirement that reads something along the lines of, the "PRIMARY" means of egress cannot be locked or disabled from the inside. So while yes there is the emergency lever / latch, given this is not labled or immediately obvious to someone getting into the vehicle for the first time (I actually bet a lot of Tesla and other vehicle with similar systems owners aren't sure how to open their doors in an emergency with the backup system) I can see why this would be a regulation. When it comes to things like this, they tend to regulate to the worst case scenario. I.e. Someone not familiar with the vehicle being trapped inside in an emergency situation and needing to get out fast.
