Watch this video - when the tailgate is down, one side is tight while the other has slack - anyone else's do this? I have an upcoming service visit scheduled to deal with a sticky Tonneau cover and was going to include this, unless it's normal for reasons I don't understand?

Both of mine are loose unless I'm standing on the tailgate.

Questions for OP
  1. Are the cables the same length? Measure the full length if possible.
  2. Do both get tight when you sit on the tailgate?
  3. Is the tailgate all the way opened and level with the bed? On both sides

I actually adjusted my striker plates a bit as the alignment on my tailgate wasn't quite right when closed. T-40 star bit I believe...lined it right up. But before adjustment I had the same issue...driver's side loose. Now they're both tight when the tailgate is down.

They are not the same length, because only 1 side gets tight when I sit on the tailgate. Yes, level and open - 1 of these is clearly a bit longer than the other.

mine has exact same issue - was wondering....

I'll try adjusting striker plates as mentioned above!

separate question - anyone know why there's a second attachment point near top of cables? is that to have the tailgate at an angle when open? or something else?

Yes, exactly. It's strange that this is listed in the CT DIY page and not the Owner's Manual, haha!!

This feature came in handy for keeping this load in the bed:

Tesla Cybertruck Tailgate cables - 1 tight / 1 slack? 20240513_161658crsm

In this photo, the tailgate cables are positioned in the high setting (which did a great job of keeping the firewood rounds captive). It takes a bit of hand strength to overcome the spring clips that hold the cable ends captive, so they don't accidently come unattached (but it becomes easier as they are broken in by switching between the normal and high tailgate heights).

Wow, that's a cool pic. What do you estimate the weight was for that load? That's worthy of framing and hanging on a wall.

It was about 2400 lbs. all in, which put it well over the rear axle rating. But it drove level and without detectable flexing over bumps, totally unlike any other over-loaded truck I've ever driven. Generally, they feel over-loaded, not the Cybertruck.

Yeah, people who say the Cybertruck is not a real truck don't understand much about trucks.
Same with people who say it's not a real off-road vehicle.
Same with people who say it's hard to take care of.

I could go on and on, but I'll just say "It's a badass and it hauls ass!".

People say all kinds of ****, I'll acknowledge the visual is an acquired taste (I love it), but to some it's fugly (my wife for one but she likes the truck overall), and I'll say EV trucks are not a replacement for a long haul diesel for big ass RV trailers - because they're not IMHO.....and I'll say the finger print removal takes me 1 extra step / 5 minutes extra with Sprayway other than that it's as real of a truck if not more than the competition and it hauls ass.! Gave a co worker a test drive today (about my 20th in 6 weeks), he's ordering one after we spent 30 min playing around (current F150 owner) (that's 2 probable referrals in the 6 weeks I've had one and have 2 others that early reserved but waiting for non FS)....more referral credits I cant use on anything currently - hope they open up some cyber truck accessories for the referral program - want a spare, factory tour and hopefully some new accessories since I own all the others im interested in! Bottom line, truck is bad ass for 95% of truck use cases and I love it!
