I thought the luxury tax was nixed due to the weight of the vehicle in Canada?

Mine did not show provincial taxes. That will not be calculated until you get closer to delivery and you inform Tesla where you will have it delivered and registered. Mine did show the Federal Luxury Tax ($8171 ) which should now be removed, but then $19 K will go on for provincial taxes

Wow. Taxes are crazy. In Manitoba we have 7% then the 5% fed. I can’t go cyberbeast but consider the FS dual motor. Just got my invitation yesterday. Now to decide… should I pull the trigger? What’s the premium on the FS anyway over the usual CT?

That was the Federal Luxury Tax.

BC has a Provincial Luxury Tax that replaces the 7% Provincial Tax with a tax rate at a sliding scale depending on the price of the vehicle.

In this case the beast is over $150K and the Provincial portion of the tax is 20%, in addition to the 5% GST. So 25% tax in BC. That is a really bit tax hit.

The Dual Motor at $137K would be 15% BC Provincial Luxury Tax + 5% GST for a total of 20% tax.

Albertans have no provincial tax and have only 5% GST I think. Albertans chime in here please.

Ontario has 13% HST (Provincial 8% + Federal 5% rolled into 1 tax).

Not sure how other provinces tax new vehicle purchases.

Yeah, so BC is also 7+5 on most purchases, but they introduced a new Luxury Tax for vehicles a few years ago.

Ontario is 8 + 5, so 13% HST

Some Atlantic provinces are 15 and 17%, but I do not know how they tax vehicles, because sometimes that is different.

It will be great if Canadians post their totals with tax breakdown when they get their delivery instructions and get their final invoice cost.

The German folks would have imported their vehicle into Canada if they were moving here.

As a Canadian resident, you may NOT drive a foreign plated car into Canada. You will have to import it. They may allow you to drive it to your home and then park it (they allowed snowbirds to do this during the Pandemic), but you will not be allowed to drive it in Canada without importing it. And that may be impossible or cost prohibitive. And you will pay the taxes on it. So not cheaper.

Mexican nationals or Permanent residents same rules. Temporary residents (or tourists) of Mexico may drive a foreign plated car in Mexico for the duration of their Temporary Import Permit (TIP), max of 4 years for Temporary Residents. Cost of importing vehicle into Mexico is also very expensive and they only allow it for certain years of vehicles.

With the cost of the FS with the US exchange being at an almost record high, and the lovely Canadian taxes, I doubt there will be a huge demand for the FS series.

Also, many people from Canada who had reservations had mistakenly put their reservation through the US website, and I understand that those reservations were cancelled.

Canadian existing Tesla owners did the reservation through their Canadian account and avoided that error, but non Tesla owners watched the presentation on the US Tesla site and put their reservations through that site.

When I was at the Tesla store in Polanco (the poshest neighbourhood) in Mexico City last year they had the new (at the time) Plaid model S and people were buying like crazy.

Mexico has 130 million people and while there are many poor people in Mexico, the number of super wealthy Mexicans completely eclipses wealthy Canadians with our population of a mere 40 million.

Compare that to the US with 330 million peeps.

I expect we will see many Cybertrucks in the wealthy areas of Mexico. We now have a Supercharger in Puerto Vallarta. With the new highway from Guadalajara shortening the drive to the coast, we see many many wealthy Mexicans purchasing real estate (compared to the foreigners who previously were driving the real estate prices) and in Nuevo Vallarta we have a surge of higher end restaurants opening and they are full of Mexicans rather than tourists (although many are Mexican tourists from other areas of Mexico). These are the people who buy 3-4 bedroom ocean front condos and use 2-3 times a year and do not rent it out when they are not using it).

Mexico is booming. I will be in Monterrey next week and I am looking forward to seeing the city in which the (eventual) GigaMexico will be located.

Although electricity is very expensive in Mexico, everyone has solar panels to power their homes and charge their cars. Solar panels systems are inexpensive in Mexico compared to Canada, however they are lacking in battery backup systems.

Yep! its gonna be an expensive truck....I doubt BC will remove the 20% lux tax so like you said itll amount to 25% tax which equates to $42,185 on top of the sale price of $168,740 = $210,925. This is ridiculous but thats the world we live in...
