Wrapping my Cybertruck - PPF or Vinyl?

My installer is giving me samples of PPF colors and none of them seem to have the "deep" color that the vinyl wraps have. He informs me that vinyl doesn't have the longevity of PPF and he does not recommend vinyl especially since my CT is not garage-kept.
How long does it take for vinyl to start to degrade or fade? Does it leave any residual color or affect on the vehicle when it is removed?

I would definitely go with PPF if budget allows.

Most color choices are covered between all of the PPF brands. I would search through STEK, Inozetek, Pure, Avery Dennison, etc. to see if they offer what you want. Then find the local "authorized installer" of said brand. This is under the assumption that your current shop isn't willing to order other brands they don't have a relationship with.

I would also sift through OC Detailing "Cybertruck PPF" youtube vids. They've posted installs on almost every color under the sun.

I did vinyl with PPF clear satin overlay.

Very happy.

My wallet might not be able to handle that - good idea, though.

It's simple - The two main arguments of PPF over Vinyl is (1) longer life and (2) better protection. If you are ok for wrap to last couple of years then go for Vinyl, else if you want for longer period go for PPF. CT is steel so it does not need protection anyways. And BTW, Vinyl is half or less in cost compared with PPF. I wrapped my CT myself, in Vinyl, for less than $575.

It occurred to me the other day, is it easy for vandals to rip PPF or Vynyl off?

Fortunately, I haven't read anything of the sort happening yet. Maybe it's not that easy.

Polyurethane, the structural part of PPF, is more dense than ethylene-vinyl acetate, the most common structural part of vinyl. They both hold up well in sunlight, and neither of them do that great in extreme temperatures, PU is king as it's melting point is higher and the point at which it gets brittle is lower than EVA. They're both cheap to manufacture. The "self healing" thing is really just a marketing gimmick that describes PU's ability to reform without showing significant stresses. True self-healing polyurethane generally suffers from low mechanical strength and poor thermal mechanical properties, but is mitigated with a bunch of nerdy materials science ?. What most PPF actually is is just remelted and called self healing, which is still something EVA can't really do without breaking down.
Regardless, PPF is significantly tougher than vinyl!

I haven't wrapped yet, but this is my thought too. I can get vinyl 2-3 times for the price of PPF. If I want to change the color every 2 years, the end cost will be the same and vinyl should hold up that long.

Originally I was going to go with PPF because I wanted it to last. I've now decided to go with vinyl because you can't get satin or Chrome finishes in PPF. The specific color I'm interested is only available in vinyl.

The brand I'm going with says the vinyl will last 5 years out of the Sun and 2-3 years in the sun.

I would recommend PPF, there are so many new offerings that are amazing. Inozetek, Pure PPF in particular come mind!

Vinyl is not as durable and I even had one wrap shop tell me "I wouldn't want to put Vinyl on your CT, you wouldn't be happy in the long run"

So what I have seen, most go with PPF. My shop who is wrapping mine (Inozetek PPF) wrapped a CT in Vinyl, but they then wrapped that with clear PPF. So you could double up but that's more $$$.

I did mine in shiny black PPF looks like it was painted. I saw a vinyl one looks good but not quite like a paint job.
I did PPF because I dont want to mess with it for 5 to 7 years
