Tesla is apparently now not letting anyone with a pending foundation series order wait for non foundation

I just got off the phone with Tesla. Per the supervisor, the new policy is that they can delay the order three times, 2 weeks each per delay. So, total of 6 weeks. In case that helps anyone.
This makes more sense. This is essentially “ I’m literally not in town right now and can’t pick it up.” Sort of thing vs “hold my spot in line for half a year”.

This attitude is so wrong.

I did not receive special treatment from a random employee. The hold was granted to me in an official email (linked to my order) from Tesla directly based on the existing policy at the time. My request was granted per the policy that existed at Tesla at the time. To retroactively void a granted requested based on new policy is not acceptable in any way or form.

No matter how you argue it, it is not right to go back on a request that was officially granted by the company.

And in my case, I actually want the Foundation series so I am not trying to transfer my $1000 deposit to a non-Foundation model.
Well, it sounds like you have a legitimate case to have your $1k refunded with evidence that a different sales arrangement was made. Assuming that FS CTs aren't still available in Nov.

"BS analysis"? It is inevitable that these FS Cybertrucks will indeed sell for 50% or less than the purchase price in a few years. In March, I bought a 2018 Model X 100D from Tesla (1 yr or 10K miles warranty) for $41K. It had 49K miles on the ODO, all possible options plus FSD. That vehicle originally cost over $150K and it looks, feels and drives almost like a new Model X.

IMHO, the Cyberbeast has less real world utility than a 6 seat Model X and I'm actually happy that Tesla decided to strap a $50K price gouge on the FS Cybertruck. Now, when I see one drive by I think thank god I'm not strapped with that over priced monstrosity as my daily driver. Of course I think the person who originally bought my X was foolish too but as they say, a fool and his money are soon parted ...
I truly think you would feel different if you had one as your daily driver. We have a 2020 Model X that feels antiquated after driving the truck as my daily. So many aspects of the truck make it a more comfortable daily. If the looks are not something you like that is different and not something anyone can tell you how much they like it etc., so you should too, in my opinion. It is not for everyone that is for sure. I disagree with the real world utility, find the Cybertruck easy to do daily tasks with a having done a couple long road trips it is more comfortable for that as well. Having the bed for storage on trips is amazing.

Tesla basically just told me to either take delivery of a foundation series truck or lose $1000 dollars and place a new order for a non foundation series truck when it comes out.

Is tesla in the right here?
Nonrefundable deposit means nonrefundable. I’m not sure what the issue is?

If you don't qualify for the tax credit, I would get the Foundation. Between the FSD, Store voucher, and other accessories, the difference is less than 10k.
....and that, on Teslas part, is BS. How did a $60k truck go to $100k at release of the FS package but it's only a $10k difference now that non FS is coming. I'm on my second new Chevy lease since 2021 waiting on a Non-FS with my very early reservation. But I'm not paying $80k for a Non-FS base truck. Tesla lost my sale by not staying under that $70k price point.

Is it possible that your 2020 COVID and supply chain strained X has more inherent deficiencies? Tesla's in general are so well engineered and built that the QA and service processes are not well developed. Most of the Tesla issues are cosmetic and the Cybertruck certainly fits that description. I've never liked the look of the Cybertruck and adding the additional profit margin Tesla chose is another stumbling block. I believe that when other manufacturers catch up with Giga Castings and automated production there will be considerable price pressure on Tesla. As with the current S3XY models they have room to adjust and likely will. At that point in time I'll make the call ...

BTW, Elons Twitter posts are another reason I am uncomfortable supporting Tesla. In a way, I am happy he has finally told everyone who he is. Like a friend of his, his words may be detrimental to the brand but apparently they don't give a f***, so why should I?

Alright guys I got another update for yall. I just spoke to Tesla HQ via the 725 number, and drum roll please. According to the very nice rep I spoke to who spoke to his superiors, they have reversed course again!!!

Based on customer feedback they are now allowing customers to continue to be placed on order holds until such a time that the non foundation series is available, and they WILL allow you to take delivery with the Foundation Series order.

Again this is from a frontline rep and not official, but he was both aware of the policy change and read me a new policy that seems to have JUST be put in place.

I could have gotten wrong information, but this is what I was told!

You said that the rep read the policy to you. Would you be willing to share what they read to you? I’m curious about how many holds they give you, for how long etc.

It sounds like they’ll let you hold it for as long as the Foundation series is made, but not any longer, was that your understanding as well?

The policy was basically that customers wishing to wait for a regular cybertruck could place their order on an extended hold to accommodate their request.

Yeah it wasnt clear if there was a limit on how many/long you could hold your order for.

In my personal opinion we are very close to the end of the foundation series, so we may not need to hold for that long.

On the website, it says that the Foundation Series will be available for 1 year.

Delivery event was November 30. My bet is that Foundation Series will end Nov 2024.

You accepted the conditions when you placed your order.
You asked for special treatment AFTER placing you order.
...And Tesla sent him written confirmation of this.

Random employees shouldn't be able to change that status.

It's not cut and dried, because a company is responsible for what random employees do and say. That's why companies should be very careful what employees do.

When he gave Tesla the deposit, Tesla hadn't set a date yet. When Tesla sent him that email, they set a new date.

Now Tesla is reneging on its date.
