I had Xpel Xr 70% window tint put on the roof and windshield. It has been sitting outside in my driveway for the past 2 months in 100 to 110 degree heat. If this insane summer didn't crack it, I am not worried.

While no one wants to deal with the PIA associated with a cracked roof/windshield, I think the concern of folks has been less about whether or not the glass will crack, but more so about whether Tesla will replace the cracked glass under warranty if it has been tinted.

I had my front windows tinted and asked my installer about adding Llumar Air 80 to the windshield for heat rejection, he flat out refused. I know others have done it with no issues, but there’s always a chance for this kind of cracking :(

Sorry this happened, that really sucks.
Oh shit I tinted my front windshield with a light tint just to keep a little of the heat out if it's not in garage. Are we not sapose to tinted windshield or roof glass?

Yes, and I always use a high in tint and wrap company here in Irvine Ca. that do very high end cars. I’ll be calling them tomorrow to see if there had issues like this and if it would be ok if instead of the dark tint I can do the clear. They both have the same reflective component.
I'm thinking if the tint is to dark it's holding the heat

You're probably fine. Lots of people get their windshield tinted without any issues.

In theory, though, the heat that is rejected by the film has to go somewhere, and that somewhere is back into/through the windshield glass, which may cause thermal stress on the glass in a way that is not intended. That is also why some film products are offered that go on the outside of the windshield - rejected heat goes straight into the atmosphere. But that caries its own problems with durability of the film.

I'm not an expert by any means, would love for someone with lots of tint experience to chime in.

No the roof is duel pane and the tint reflects heat back (98%) which over heated the exterior glass pane. No need to tint the glass.

Not an expert on glass either. Speculation about the cause is all over the place with some in similar situations not having an issue.

So (my speculation is) there could be the possibility of a bad batch of Glass. Possibly some impurity in the manufacturing process. Hopefully Teslas will try to correlate the VINs and supplier of the glass and batch.

I recommend 3M ceramic tinting only. Many brands of tint can overheat any window. The same thing goes for high-rise condos.
Glass has a melting point of 2,500°F

Recommend not tinting at all.

I got the most out of this video regarding tinting and risks. If his measurement is correct the factory sunroof only lets through 20 BTU’s and already very good.

Windshield measures 46% and with 70% would drop it to 17%.

For people worried about warranty regarding if you tint it , anyone ever heard of peeling it off before going for your service appointment ? ?
