Hey Y'all, I wanted to share a recent experience with my 2024 Cybertruck Foundation Series and see if anyone else has dealt with similar issues.

I was driving the other day, had just taken off from a green light, when a small 2010-ish Mazda hatchback hit my driver's side rear wheel. Thankfully, there was no real damage to the Cybertruck—these things are tanks—but what really shocked me was that both side curtain airbags deployed, along with the rear center console airbag. There was no reason whatsoever for the airbags to go off in this low-speed, minor accident, and only me in the car. From what I can remember I got hit the truck felt like rubber and just bent and went right back, Keep in mind we both were going under 20 miles per hour.

To make matters worse, when the airbags deployed, something plastic or foreign object possible clip to flew out from the airbag and hit me in the back of the head. The impact left me out for about 10 seconds and left the entire left back side of my head swollen, black and blue, and still painful. It felt like I was hit with a hammer. Not how I expected to be injured in such a minor accident with a "Bullet Proof" Truck.

I love this truck, but the experience with Tesla Service has been incredibly frustrating. I followed all the instructions to get the truck to them, but when I finally arrived, the GM turned it down and wouldn’t allow it on the lot because the airbags had deployed. His reasoning? I called sent texts through the app but, only person I could talk to was Tesla Roadside dispatch. The Manager who told me to bring it there He said the GM shoot it down, didn’t want it near their $200K worth of inventory, so instead, I had to pay $500 to have it towed to my house so the neighborhood kids can play with it? Now it’s just sitting in my driveway, vulnerable, while I'm getting no help from Tesla. I got more info from the roadside assistance guy. I was pissed so I drive the 35 minutes to Tesla, to get told "I told him to bring it to another body shop" Funny the towing guy said you suggested to bring it anywhere but Tesla service.

This whole situation has been disappointing, especially from a brand like Tesla. I’m really concerned that this airbag issue could hurt someone else even worse. when I got hit I was pulling into the charging station with about 6-7% after it got hit it sat there in the median for 2 hours waiting on Hwy Patrol. So currently the battery is dead, since the air bags deploy, they put a little stopper so it can't be charged. I love the Truck, but didn't expect to be Tesla's Crash dummy. Zero help from Tesla, the first time I talk to him he said if the Air bags deploy, they total the vehicle. So basically, with less than 5K Hwy miles, Garage kept, with less than $1500 in damage + airbags that shouldn't of went off you want me to report it to my insurance to total it, raise my rate, and i am sure won't be able to get another one (not sure after that if i want another one) but after waiting 5 years I got a good 60 days out of it. Crazy Tesla doesn't even want to talk about the airbags.

Has anyone else had their Cybertruck’s airbags deploy without reason? Or worse, had a foreign object fly out during deployment? Tesla really needs to take a close look at this before someone else gets hurt. Would love to hear your thoughts or experiences. Any advice greatly appreciated. Everyone keeps telling me to go after Tesla you are going to get paid. I don't care about that I just want to be made whole with the path of least resistances. Thanks Joseph Tampa, FL

Air bags didn’t go off without reason, there shock sensors and apparently the impact breached the threshold causing them to deploy. It’s too bad for your situation. When my M3P got ass ended, I put in a service request and they told me I’d have to take to a 3rd part Tesla certified shop. I chose one in Pensacola. Was over an hours drive, next time I’d pick a different shop. Best of luck to ya.

Thank you for the information much appreciated. I do have a question, Why would the back seat Airbag go off with no one in the back seat. There is an airbag where the rear screen is located. Also, any Idea what hit me in the back of the head? Only thing I know for sure it wasn't an air bag it was some kind of debris from the airbag. I added the pictures as you can see no real damage only damage was the tire a little bit and my crack skull. Once I can get Tesla to Take it they can charge it and we can watch the video in cabin. If I had to guess it was a loose plastic siding. The entire thing just sucks, and Tesla doesn't want to help.

I believe being tboned at 19mph (“less than 20”) is pretty serious and could
/would/should initiate deployment of side air curtains. What damage did the Mazda sustain and did its front air bags deploy? The visible body damage to your truck isn’t just a ding and there is certainly potential for drive train damage.

I don’t see Tesla as the bad guy here, you had an unfortunate accident. And get your story line straight, preserve the emitted projectile(s) from the defective air bag before calling Morgan and Morgan. You haven’t informed your insurance company? Come on.

I don't believe any car dealer will deal with the accident related body work. For the airbag questionable deployment, It would be only investigated after it been fixed. Backseat Airbag would be deployed no matter they were occupied or not obviously.

Your airbags worked exactly as intended. Period. Nothing to complain about. This post is bogus trash talk. They absolutely should have deployed based on what you described and the little plastic bit that gave you an owie you should stop whining about. Sorry for the tough love but from my persoective you deserve it. This is what they are for. Just because it surprised you that they went off does not mean it wasn’t an appropriate deployment. I have worked in trauma centers for over 20 years. Be thankful you have a vehicle that looks out for you and your passengers.

my two cents, FWIW

cheers… and safe driving.

you can access the glove box and get the drive out, put it in a PC and view the footage. VLC media player works well for this. If your unable to power the truck off the 12v you can google / YouTube how to “jump start it” and the the glove box will open.

All sounds expected here. A collision deployed airbags. Airbags can for sure cause minor injuries, with the trade off that they save lives or prevent a serious head injury in a collision.

Tesla is not going to get involved, nor should they, except to do the repair. If there was no collision, they would likely investigate an airbag deployment.

The towing situation is common. Tow truck drivers are not really overly concerned with saving you time and money. They want to drop the vehicle off as quickly as possible and move on to the next call.

There is really nothing to be done here except a standard insurance claim and a repair. Crappy situation, but good luck getting it resolved.

There is no visible damage.

That truck needs to be inspected and will likely have damage between the SS and the iner castings. as designed.

Especially with deployed airbags.

Also this is 100% an insurance claim and not a have tesla look at it claim.

Lol, call Morgan and Morgan, get my story straight? The Mazda was already beat up—it had front, rear, and side damage. Not sure if it even had an airbag, it was pretty old. Also, there was a big Pit Bull chilling in the front seat without a seatbelt (lol), and the dog was fine, everyone was fine except for me. I didn’t have any airbag-related injuries from the impact—just got hit by something, no idea what it was. I have commercial fleet insurance, and I did contact them, but Tesla service told me the damage wasn’t significant, and it wasn’t my fault, so why raise my rates?

Seems like you missed my point and motivation here (which is totally pure). FYI, I just beat a frivolous $5 million lawsuit last month. I wouldn’t put anyone through what I went through. If you’re curious about my motivations, just Google “Joseph Powersol TCPA lawsuit.” There are plenty of articles about my principles.
Thank you for your input though appreciate you!

I really feel for you about this situation. It sounds like a problem we all have with Tesla Service. Their service sucks and getting a hold of someone to actually help is a real issue. They keep saying use the app for everything and just get automated responses or someone that has no real answers or help. I really hope I don't get into an accident with CT and have to go through this.

I can't help to notice that your post seems to be providing yourself a foundation for a lawsuit to sue Tesla. I am totally against frivolous lawsuits. In this case I think something should be done about this to change what is going on with their service.

Hopefully Tesla takes care of this for you.

Good luck!

Based on the picture, I'd say the airbag deployment was warranted. It appears that most of the impact was absorbed by the rear door sill and that area is likely bent in if you look closely with the door open. The rear quarter panel is bent in just behind the door, the door will probably need replaced, and as mentioned before, the suspension is likely damaged along with the wheel.

Just an uneducated guess but I'd say you're looking at 10-20k in damage, hopefully I'm wrong.

I hope you can recover the video, would be interesting to see the actual impact vs damage.

Hopefully I never need to know, but I live in the middle of the Pensacola SC (an absolute dump of a property that's not qualified to house a Buy Here, Pay Here lot) and the new one in Tallahassee. I'm two hours from each. I saw a Tesla body shop near the Pensacola SC, but where else are Tesla body shops in the panhandle?

Lawsuits suck as a Plaintiff, I can't imagine getting tied up as a Defendant. I laugh at all the people telling you to sue Tesla, bc you will make bank. LOL.
I looked briefly at your TCPA, and gotta say you will get no sympathy if this is about you being a telemarketer and blowing up our phones with call centers and texts.
