Apparently, we’re supposed to believe that:

1. This person updated their firmware while their car was parked in this precarious location knowing full-well that ASS would be implicated/affected and didn’t consider that there could be a problem? Of course, that’s completely irrelevant given items 2 and 3!

2. This person doesn’t know that they can simply open their trunk and fold their seats down to access the cabin?

3. The person can be heard saying in the video that it, “won’t go to pin.” ?

Well, that’s not how they fucking got the car in there! Did they forget that all they need to do is to push on the reverse arrow in dumb summon and move the car back? You know, exactly the reverse of how they got it in there! ?

May be they should have an IQ test before letting you use Smart summon ?
I believe this person and Elecktrek, for that matter, knew exactly what they were doing.

Yep. That website is tabloid garbage.

There is more detail in the print version of the story. The owner actually does know that he can crawl up to the driver's seat via the trunk, but apparently this is not an ideal workaround because he has a bad back.
He also contacted the local service center – which he managed to bring the car to by opening the trunk and crawling in through the whole car up to the driver’s seat, despite an ailing back which added more difficulty to this comical situation.
The Tesla service center (presumably the one in Dartmouth, NS) reportedly replicated the issue, but has no solution at this time:
At the service center – where he said they were very helpful – they were able to confirm the existence of the problem by stacking boxes beside the car and showing that it wouldn’t move. But they couldn’t offer a rollback, and offered no timeline for a potential fix.
The print article also claims that this is not an isolated case:
just after posting this article, we received multiple emails owners in similar situations
One reader posted the following comment after the print story:
This is what I am dealing with as well! I used to use dumb summon from the key fob daily. Now with the Actually Smart Summon feature (one that I might use twice a year), I can no longer dumb-summon from the key fob, and the dumb summon feature in the app only works if you have a strong cellular signal. So yeah, I have to climb in and out of the trunk to park in my tight garage now.

Doesn’t address a single one of my criticism though. You have a bad back, so you have a bad back don’t put yourself in stupid situations where you might need to cause yourself some back pain.

This car was not placed in this location by using summon go a map point. That didn’t happen.

Updating FSD while your car is parked in this location would be the same amount of smart as updating the firmware on your DSLR during the middle of a photo shoot and then complaining about not being able to get the photo shoot done because something went hinky with the software. ?

Forward and reverse on summon works just fine and there’s no indication from the video or the article that this person couldn’t have just done that.

So, still total bullshit, IMO.

Fred Lambert and Electrek circled the drain a long time ago, I'm glad I flushed them down and out of my feeds. FUD-spreading hacks playing wannabe journalists. Tragic, really.

Whatever gets the clicks man. Besides Tesla, there is nothing else interesting in the EV news. And the more negative it is, the better.

Wish people knew this simple info and not be such drones.

Maybe a coincidence, but there do seem to be multiple people at the teslamotorsclub forum who are dissatisfied with the performance of Dumb Summons in tight spaces following the recent ASS update:
I use it to move my car in and out of my garage due to the tight fit. But this Summon is a pain to get my car in the garage.
We are having the exact same problem, and are very disappointed. I'm sure that some folks don't think that Dumb Summon is that important, but for those of us that are shoehorning our cars into our garages, it's more than a convenience. The Summon feature has always been glitchy, but this is just another growing pain for FSD, we hope. We really do hope that there's a programmer working on fixing this.
I'm REALLY hoping they make some changes/fixes in the next software release to get it working again, because I'm having trouble getting in/out of the car in the garage.

Yeah it definitely isn’t as good as it was before I’m seeing problems with it too. But I haven’t had it in quite some time because all of our vehicles are new enough to not have ultrasonic sensors and we lost that feature when we updated our cars.

So we just got it back and I have used it on the first floor of a seven story garage without issue and at my house pulling cars in and out of the garage without issue. It does seem to struggle on come to me and go to location this is the nature of these things.

I don’t have any issue with anybody complaining about software. I take umbridge to people setting up false narratives like this though.

Most of the public have no idea what this controversy is about, what the software does/doesn’t do, and it just sounds to them like Tesla being garbage.

Just like the post I read earlier today on Reddit of someone complaining about the plastic on their b-pillar cracking and falling off on their model 3. It was the damn plastic protection vinyl that they never managed to pull off the car. Meanwhile, you’ve got ignoramuses weighing-in left and right about typical Tesla build quality. ?

We have a preponderance of Machiavellians on one hand and morons on the other. Both suck!

I guess another way of putting it is: “clowns to the left of me and jokers to the right … .”
