Yeah, no.
I said quote me in a few months.

As far as I know hauling doesn't have any insider info to claim that tesla's packs wont qualify. It's right now in the process for certification. Tesla has deployed a couple of CT which would qualify.

So, give it a second.

Elon was clear that he doesn't want the EV rebate BUT only if the federal government removed all fossil fuel subsidies as well. Thats a big change going against many entrenched interests.
......
I highly doubt fossil fuel subsidies will decrease during coming Trump admin.

My guess there is higher chance that fossil fuel subsidies will actually increase.
Reduction in fuel economy standards and mandates.
Loosing of emission limits.
Allowing more air, water, ground pollution.
Make it harder for renewables (solar, wind) industry to compete.

If $7,500 is your make or break it point on a $80k purchase, this is a poor financial decision regardless of the administration. $80k is a lot of money for a car.

Some people won't be happy until they can get Cybertrucks, Lambos and such like with their EBT cards. I saved and invested for over 45 years to buy mine.
Congratulations.

It's not. Don't qualify anyway.

A Ford/Tesla collaboration will not fix Ford's problem, which is basically a wrong-headed way of thinking about vehicle design and manufacturing. The products have to manufactured in an efficient manner so they are affordable. Over a century of being in a somewhat dominant position has made them forget that it's all about delivering value, and that's all about constant innovation on behalf of their future customers.

You can't turn that around with a collaboration. It takes a decade or more. It would be easier to start over, without all their corporate baggage.
That’s exactly what Ford has done and is doing. Pay attention.

Tesla can offer cheap vehicles because of the cheap materials they are currently using. Add the incentive and the cars fly off the shelf. Taking the incentive away will for Tesla to start making quality interiors and stop being cheap…

why people don't see Elon's genius here: if Kamala wins EV tax credit/incentive will be intact. But if Trump wins it's gonna be damn dead. Now, there's air to breathe b/c of Elon.

I'm thinking you haven't gone shopping for a new full-sized 4x4 truck lately. $80K is right about where you will be unless your willing to drive a more basic truck without the higher end trims and features.

Most countries with a large amount of EVs have used incentives to do it. And their Governments have installed charging infrastructure. So I feel people here still need some kind of incentive to switch from gas to electric. Our public charging is garbage. Tesla has done what they can but for the majority of customers to switch it will take easy charging and lower prices.

That's one of the more misleading narratives I've read here.

The thick, damage resistant cold rolled steel is anything but cheap. It costs many times more than thin, soft steel or even aluminum.

The computers in a Tesla are more powerful and more energy efficient. The screens are higher quality and bigger. The steer by wire with redundant motors and steering wheel feedback motor is more expensive. The rear wheel steer is more expensive. The fully adjustable suspension dampers and air suspension with a high pressure (~350 psi) is more expensive. The wheels and tires are more expensive and higher quality than typically seen on a Ford or GM. The impact resistant borosilicate windshield glass is more expensive, the double pane sound insulating side glass is more expensive than most models use.

Tesla's are a good value because Elon runs a tight ship. He avoids waste and knows how to manufacture efficiently. They make the seats in-house because automotive seat suppliers tried to take them for an expensive ride and couldn't meet Tesla's standards for comfort, support and durability. A Model 3 seat with 150,000 miles still looks and feels great compared to a Ford Mach-e seat.

Ford is still losing tens of thousands of dollars on every EV they make, including the Mach-e which has been in production for many years. It has cheap plastics, cheap seats, cheap body, cheap suspension, cheap chassis, cheap shocks, it's built to a low price point but costs far more than a Model 3 or a larger Model Y because Ford is inefficient at manufacturing. They have too much overhead, too much management, too much advertising, too many production facilities and too many low-productivity engineering departments. The new car buyer has to pay for all of that.

It's silly in the extreme to say Tesla can offer low prices because they use cheap materials. Material costs are only less than 15% of the price of the vehicle and Tesla uses many materials that are more premium than what is typical at the price point.
