Figured this could help someone looking to do their first rotation...

A few things I learned:
1.) I found that raising the suspension to high before jacking was more convenient. When leaving on low the jack just takes the lack out of the supension... more jacking and more time going around.
2.) Looking back I would have started on the front or gotten a jack with about 2 inches more travel. My jack has a total throw of 19-7/8'' and this was just a tad short.
3.) The cheap harbor freight 6-ton jack stands were great... felt safe the whole time.

I was surprised at the rigidity of this thing! Very cool to see.

Was an X-Pattern rotation the right call or should I have done a forward cross? Anything else I did wrong?

Cheers,

I took my CT (FS AWD) into Telsa for rotation @ ~6,800 miles.

They called and said the tires were wearing perfectly even and didn't need to be rotated. They said they would still do it if I wanted, but they wanted to save me the cost of the rotation. I told them to skip it and thanked them for looking out, haha!!

Just a data point for those coming up on 6,500 miles.

Forward cross is generally how I have always done it. Just a point to note, if you are only doing an x-pattern, you only need 2 jack stands. Put the stands in the cross opposite sides and use the Jack to stabilize the truck from teetering.

I have a spare I'll rotate in and the Harbor Freight 'off road' jack with extra height.

Pattern like this: Before:
FL: 1 FR: 2
........\ /
......... X
........ / \
RL: 3 RR: 4
Spare: S

After:
FL: 4 FR: S
.......\ /
........ X
....... / \
RL: 2 RR: 3
Spare: 1

Nice thanks for the tip! I think I'll do the forward cross on the next round.

Isn't there a jacking mode to keep the suspension from trying to level?

Yes I put it in jacking mode. That just makes it not try to level. The 'slack' is still taken out of the suspension when jacking from what I can tell

I should probably look at my tires. I'm just under 8,000 miles. I've never rotated tires on a car. It's always felt kind of gimmicky and I just don't see any difference in tire wear. I've had lots of cars... like, lots... and same with trucks. Though, I've never had one on All Terrain 35s before.

Did you check tire wear ? I’ve had a lot of all wheel drive cars and some I never had to do a rotation as they wore perfectly even. Curious with rear steering how it’s going to affect wear .

Nothing I could discern.

Did you take it to the Tesla dealer and what did they charge you

Yes, Tesla West Covina.

IIRC, they were going to charge ~$60??

But, charge was $0 since they didn’t rotate the tires.

I also had them check alignment. They found it within spec and that was $0 as well.
