I don't know anything about Tesla transmissions, but when driving one have never noticed shifting. The video (https://www.tesla.com/cybertruck) on the Cybertruck ordering page looks like the truck is shifting gears... any thoughts on this?

Teslas don't have transmissions, no shifting, no transmissions to go out at 5:00 pm Friday afternoon on the freeway. It has a gearbox that is essentially a gear reducer, reducing at a 9 to 1 ratio.

Teslas do have transmissions but they are single speed transmissions. No gear shifting. That is the huge advantage electric motors have over ICE ones. They can supply virtually constant torque at any speed , even 0, up to the point where torque must be limited to stay within the power limitations.

Note that AWD Teslas have more than one transmission (the TM CT will have 3). The front and rear transmissions may not have the same gear ratio but there is no question of shifting gears. At least one BEV (Porsche?) does have 2 gears.

What is with the apparent high-speed weight shifting in the video?

I kind of see what you are saying. There is a bit of a "shift" going on. But Tesla's don't have multiple gears. On the other hand, the video shows them driving on a remote road with absolutely nothing around them. My take on the video is that the road surface is not perfectly flat. The "shifting" motion seems to be small bumps in the road surface that cause the front to slightly elevate and fall. Then for the rear to do the same thing.

Good eye on the video. And boy are we getting bored waiting on our CT deliveries. Or at least some good news to masticate over.

If it's the video I'm thinking of, it's a render, not an actual video of the truck. A bunch of the promo stuff on the Cybertruck page is rendered and not actual photos/ footage. Hopefully they will get the betas out and replace this stuff.

If the driver let off the accelerator (could be running out of road), then the vehicle will shift as the motors brake it. Or even just flooring the accelerator (if it wasn't all the way down) will also cause a shift in the opposite direction.

This is what I was thinking also. If you have a Model S/3/X/Y you can do this same thing without shifting. Just let the car "coast" then stab the gas pedal. Your passengers heads slam against the headrests and the front of the car lifts up.

That's possible with my Model Y AWD (not performance). The Cybertruck is bulkier and has much more acceleration. Punching that accelerator at anything less than 90 MPH is going to cause a fairly obvious local gravity anomaly with respect to the truck's content and mass.

If you want to see a Tesla Model S Plaid going full out against a host of ICE vehicles check out this channel. The interior views show how smooth the Plaid accelerates down the track while smoking the competition. No gears here. https://www.youtube.com/c/TeslaPlaidChannel

Jeep Magneto has a manual transmission too
First, it's a concept car with no ship date.

Second, the whole idea is stupid. They add all of the inefficiencies of an automotive transmission, all of the bulky transfer cases, driveshafts, and nonsense invented in the 40s to make 4WD work... then add a single underpowered electric motor to power the whole thing.

Better be some durable gears to handle the electric motor torque
It's so underpowered it's not a problem.
