Why the vault is too claustrophobic for sleeping and a tiny topper will make all the difference

Any way to add an image of a dog or dog crate? That is my biggest concern with the vault. Family of four plus a big dog. Really hoping I can get the dog and crate in the vault with it closed.

Rivian may have been first to market but with its very low production rate its hardly a game changer.
They don’t have nearly the same demand (reservation numbers) as CT so they can afford to be a bit slower at the time. For an electric truck that does 0-60 in 3 seconds and can go anywhere in comfort and style, I would say they have changed the game. But I don’t own stock in any of them so I really don’t care that much who changes the game. I just care what I get and when I get it. That is volume of one. In case of CT, I really care if it had a full midgate or a SUV version but to be frank even if it was here as advertised a few years ago, I would take It over Rivian in a heartbeat (mainly due to price). The real game changer is the one that can (and is willing to) deliver a good product at low cost. Even though no one disputes Tesla is the company that has changed the car market game for good, with their production capacity in couple of years, the real change will come when/if supply catches up with demand. Until then, Chinese manufacturers will most likely be the ones producing affordable EVs and have the most impact.

  1. Try sleeping flat instead of sitting up
  2. People sleep on a mattress in their Model Y comfortably
  3. Your topper is not bear-proof

That person is about 6’5 and at least 380 pounds in that diagram. ;)

I don’t think it will be claustrophobic if you sleep with your head towards the cabin. Also, unless they make some sort of major design change, that mid gate/wall won’t come down. I expect the window to open to allow airflow, etc.

My plan was to sleep in the backseat area if I was by myself. However creating a nice comfortable set up in the rear bed could be interesting. Based on the dimensions, a FULL sized mattress/sleeping pad could be deployed (54” x 75”). It could be deployed and ready to go on demand during a cross country trip.

Obviously no bathroom, but it would be the same as most vanlifers.

Why is the person sleeping with their head towards the rear of the truck?

If it has a mid-gate or the back window can lower, you'd hop in the back with your key fob and hit the tonneau button, with your head towards the front. You'd then have room to even sit reclined/upright.

Am I the only one picturing someone with their wife and 2 kids crammed into the vault with a dog now?

As for getting the dog + crate into the truck, depends largely on the size of the crate.

Why are we so focused on cramming ourselves into the vault. I am expecting that we will soon see tent options that use inflatable tubes, such as the Heimplanet tents that pop right off the back of the bed with almost no effort. I get that it would be nice to just have the bed set up in the trunk and just fold down the midgate and crawl right in, but there is a really good chance that the midgate isn't going to move. which makes the vault a lot less attractive of a sleeping location IMO.
