I’ll be you would frown on my Cybertruck with manual transmission idea too…
USB sticks have less overall lifetime

USB sticks = Cheap, replaceable, small, low power consumption and rarely jam up. Can even last longer than the mechanical parts in a 100 disk changer. =)

Seriously? Have you not seen the power fold down Shifter and foldout workspace? How have we lived without this? :)

I stand corrected.

I wonder if there will be a good water tight way to wire my 100 CD changer into the frunk of the Cybertruck…
Since it looks like they shortened  the CT, I just hope there is enough room in the frunk to hold my 8-track tape collection :sneaky:!

If the F150 doesn’t move to EV, it won’t exist in 15 years.
At some point Ford needs to drop the F-150 name from the EV model. It's a holdover from ICE trucks and they EV trucks really are different by design. In 15 years the now F-150 Lightning it will be totally new design.

It's not too surprising, I always thought it was odd Ford was making their first EV pickup on a lightly modified ICE truck chassis that is decades old. There is no way they can compete head-to-head with Tesla using that kind of strategy and thinking so I'm glad to see Ford has finally come to their senses.

It's really exciting to seeing the kind of change Tesla has forced upon the industry. First they laughed their asses off, now they are finally starting to scramble. It's like watching a train wreck in slo-mo. Impact still isn't for three years.

As long as they don't mess with all the BUTTONS. Real trucks MUST have BUTTONS!
Ford has always been pretty good (relative to other ICE makers) when it comes to keeping the buttons mostly to the ones you need but they can't match Tesla who refines the user experience to reduce the buttons needed to the minimum. And, when you push a button in a Tesla, you don't even know you're doing it because it's probably built into the steering wheel or on the door. When you design the function of the vehicle properly, it's amazing how seldom you actually want or need to operate a button.

Still a body on frame design. I don't see any innovation in this design at all. In order to catch up some originality needs to take place. If Ford could show one new and original idea I will be impressed. 600,000 EV units is the projection for 2023? Did I read that correctly? I really do want to see Ford succeed but I don't like embellishment. But then again I believed the CT and roadster would be hitting the streets by now.
I understood the news differently. Ford hasn't released the new design; I think the one pictured is a depiction of the current design.

I assume Ford realized that to compete with Tesla's specs they are going to have to completely ditch their old-fashioned idea of how a pickup truck is built and learn how to make a stronger, more rigid chassis.

Oh I totally agree that all models need to shift to EV or fail.
My objection is to having their EV on a different platform than their tried and true F150 line. Shift the entire F150 line to a platform optimized for EVs if need be. Then You can get a F150 in a v8, v6, diesel, and EV until the market fully shifts to EV.
What people still don't seem to understand is it's not "when the market fully shifts to EV", it's when the manufacturers can make EV's in enough volume to supply the entire market. For years we have been told EV is a niche market, only now are people starting to understand that they are so superior they sell themselves - the manufacturer's just have to build them.

Of course, like any vehicle, the selling price has to be close to that of an ICE vehicle. Tesla may be the only EV manufacturer who announces selling prices that are profitable at high volume rather than limiting volume and putting a price just low enough to sell all of them even though they know they might not even be able to break even.

I think people will stop buying new ICE vehicles *before* manufacturers are capable of producing enough EVs. Vehicle purchases are already declining, I suspect that rut is only going to deepen as nobody wants last year’s tech and delays upgrading until they can afford to. Since cars tend to last 10-20+ years, there is a lot of flexibility in purchase timing. Particularly as early adopters put their fairly new ICE vehicles on the market.

Ironic really. Tesla reversed engineer for the Cybertruck. I guess Tesla did it for the "not to".

I wonder if EVs will influence big lifestyle choices. People en masse picking homes/condos/apartments that are EV ready or capable, not because they have one but because they want to get one. People picking employers with charging facilities. People causing places with motoring stop economies to shutter because they have sub-par charging infrastructure.

If EVs are adopted quickly it's going to be pretty jarring for a lot of people. People who reject EVs and are dedicated to ICE vehicles might be in for a rude awakening in ways they haven't even thought of.
