Bastards. I wonder if I'd really get boned if I used it without the sticker. Everyone knows that Tesla is HOV okay! LOL

I spent hours today just doing errands in the LA area. WTF is with bumper to bumper traffic on a Saturday???
Yeah, I'm not a fan of the stickers and transponder passes, either. But it's a pretty old plan from back in the 90s.

Tesla probably wants to suggest the best charging practices for battery degradation, and try to keep ppl between 40% to 70% for regular commutes. They should add a road trip mode toggle on maps for getting as far as possible, or better integrate abrp communication, since it's no skin off their back.
ABRP is an easy candidate for Tesla’s App Store. I’d pay for an ad-free version of that. That plus a CCS adaptor (WTF Tesla!) would eliminate a lot of the few remaining issues with road tripping.

Really the CCS would do it alone, but ABRP integration would make it A++.

I've only been to one off-brand charger ever, for no reason other than to try it. That was a J-charger that worked with the included adapter. I have not noticed CCS chargers, are they common?

My trip has been modified due to a very unfortunate situation in the family. Back to the topic though, I'm pretty much passing a SC every 20 minutes it seems, so having only that option is really not a big deal here. Again today we'll plan a lunch by one and then handle some errands.

Headed back today. I did another SC session while having lunch in Industry yesterday, brought it from 30% to 96% in about 45 minutes. Quick ramen lunch place. It really just has been so easy to manage being without a home charger.

Seeing this I cannot wait wait wait for rivian adventure chargers to stoke adventure focused competition. Plenty of space on the pull-throughs for adding water refills and waste disposal down the line. Well maintained, updated on maps, and available for non-tesla memberships. Just wave your phone to unlock. ?
I hope you are not sitting on the edge of your seat waiting for Rivian to deploy widespread water refills and waste disposal. They will probably do it at a few popular national parks for media attention and call it good. They have their hands full just trying to get to volume production at a price that will maintain demand and be sustainable. Adding waste disposal sites (beyond just a handful of token sites) will not be easy.

Talk is cheap, the winners do it in a big way like Tesla has done with their Supercharger network.

They still say they're on the path to 11,000 level 2 spots and 3500 DC quick charging spots in the next two years.

https://rivian.com/experience/charging

There have been many site plans filed and more than a few already installed so... And there already are a fair breadth of stations to choose from.

https://www.plugshare.com/map/rivian-r1t

Of course, CCS stations tend to be 1-2 spots per while Tesla averages 8 spots per station.

ICED by Tesla solar! In fairness, two spots were still open.

Also ran into a weird SC in Indio, with a problem. That island was only delivering 70k or a bit less. I moved to another spot and got the normal 140-some for that location.

The thing you experience with 70kW is typical of Supercharger V2 chargers. If there is another car in the adjacent stall you get half the juice. Sucks, but thems the breaks.

Looks like some kind of temporary charger you were on also, that’s crazy never seen one of those.

There was no other car connected to that island. It's been there for at least a year, but looks much older than that. No idea what it's all about.

Also the in-car nav is extremely conservative on charge, annoyingly stupid too. When I skipped a stop it recommended, it kept telling me to loop back. LOL, so stupid. Even when I was closer to the next charger.

I usually don’t have it try and loop back. I’ve gotten to where I just plug in the next Supercharger as my destination. That way it does the pre-conditioning at the correct time. If you try to just drive past one, it‘ll be preconditioning your battery for twice as long. That costs you a bit of range.

I was experimenting to see what it would do. On the way out, I did as you said and told the car that the SC was my destination. Also, today it started preconditioning an hour early. Weird.

We can hope. I would love it if Rivian could follow through on their announcements but that map has a very familiar disclaimer, similar to the one Rivian had on the price and timing of Rivian reservations:

Timing and location of planned Rivian Adventure Network locations shown on this map are subject to change.

Ummm....Those are primarily Electrify America and other for-profit charge networks built by third parties, not manufacturer's own charge stations. And I didn't see any water filling/waste dumping stations! I was specifically speaking to Rivian's announced infrastructure, not the mish-mash of Electrify America stations brought to us by dieselgate and other poorly executed third-party chargers that are often non-working and poorly placed. I've tried using them and gave up, it ain't pretty! I've never even seen a water filling station or waste collection station offered by Rivian (but it's not like I visit National Parks a lot since Covid hit).

I think non-Tesla owners don't realize just how much difference there really is between travelling by the ever-growing Supercharger network and the mish-mash of other charging stations that are rarely fast or convenient. It's like two different worlds out there and the storyline that third-party chargers are catching up is getting old. Some people claim they have surpassed the Supercharger network but that is crazy talk with no basis in reality. Maybe someday other charge networks will be almost as good, but even that modest goal is far from a given. Someone has to maintain the machines and ensure they work at the advertised rates. I can't even tell if those third party chargers are occupied before I arrive and most of them still charge at a paltry 50 kW which is simply not adequate unless you are eating a sit-down meal. My most common Supercharger stops are literally 10 to 15 minutes and the newest high-power versions are getting that down to 7-12 minutes. Crazy fast.

I don't need the charging that fast in my Performance Model 3 with Aero wheels but the higher speeds will be very welcome in the Cybertruck.

Ummm....Those are primarily ...
They exist and mostly work and outnumber Tesla stations. And no, they're not primarily any one network. And that's fine. I don't need a national network to buy gas, and definitely have never needed a national network to get electricity before.

Tesla did it right and does it not just best but does it well; still that doesn't mean the other option doesn't exist.

"Soon, you will have the ability to buy a buggy whip at every drug store, while those newfangled 'gasoline' stations are still inconvenient!"

It's a farce and the anti-fans like to think that every charge station is the same as the others.
