Honestly with glasses off and not knowing there was an eclipse, judging solely by how bright it was outside, I would not have known it happening.
This is why to get the effect you really have to be in the totality to really appreciate the effect. That last 1% or so of the sun being gone is huge.

Some friends of mine pedaled up to a mountain peak and said it was just stunning.
There was a partial here in California a few years ago and even though it only dimmed to a partially cloudy sky, as it approached, we were walking through the woods to the park to get a good view.

All the birds stopped singing, the shadows cast by the leaves all turned to oblate then crescents... it was really weird and awesome.

Didn't really get that where it went to totality in Oregon, where the time spent as a crescent was so little. There was this amazing wall of darkness in the sky.

Another I remember was a less than half in Washington. I stepped out of work and the sun was just between layers of clouds in the late afternoon. That I wish I had a photo of. Since it was near sundown, it was just between the clouds long enough to see a bite taken out of it. Then it was gone.

With regards to batteries/ range/ infrastructure. This whole thing reaffirms my desire for the Cybertruck with the biggest battery whatever that may be. Though if a solar option is out there I might consider a 320 mile range Cybertruck. Adding 15 miles per day instead of losing a similar amount would make trips like this massively simpler.

Also in general, reaffirms my desire for the Cybertruck. Much of this boils down to range loss due to bikes causing drag, a thing I Wouldn’t have with the truck.
If you don't have a garage, which is more than 60% of the population, and you don't go any distances (sorry Grandma, you are 200 miles away so I am not driving there) to travel, you want range.

The question now is: will Tesla build a 500 mile range test mule CyberTruck so we will know it is possible. Right now we don't know. Let's see an alpha version of the 500 mile range.

And, the other question is: when. Right now all we know for sure, is what Elon said "....hopefully in 2023 we can build the Cybertruck at scale..." Hopefully. What if it gets pushed to very late in 2023? Or into early 2024? And you are #400,000 on the list? It will be 2026 before you get yours. By then they will cost six figures.

At this point I think I am just going to skip the CT and go right to a flying car. Way more fun. Or maybe Optimus will give me a piggy back to work.

300 miles range would probably be fine if I didn’t have the bikes on the back. It’s the combination of just about the minimum range I need and driving around with drag inducing bikes that kills me.

Oddly, Cybertruck might be more efficient than my Model Y with bikes. I’m sure I’ll just make up for it by driving faster.

The April 2024 eclipse will have the path of totality traverse all of Austin.

I’m going to spend the day in front of the gigafactory holding a cardboard sign “GIVE ME MY CYBERTRUCK OR I WILL TAKE AWAY THE SUN”

That should be international “Pick Up My Cybertruck” day. Anyone who has a reservation should be able to pick up their truck on the day of the eclipse. But they have to pick it up at the factory.

It would be a giant insane festival. Alas…

Anticipating delays, I purchased a Model Y to tide me over until my Cybertruck would be ready.
SO GLAD I did.

I'm enjoying the Model Y - but unfortunate so is my wife :sneaky:

I'll be trading her in when the Cybertruck is ready [ the model y, not the wife  ]
LOL. With a 50% divorce rate being the norm in America, I can thank you for clarifying that it’s your car and not your wife that will be traded in. Your wife is a keeper!

SOURCE Sawyer Merritt on twitter:

The Cybertruck has been delayed to late 2022. "Production starting late 2022 and volume production in 2023". This is per a company wide conference call with employees.

[Admin addendum: Elon did add this about the Cybertruck: "It will be a special project. Like a glitch in the Matrix. Like if Neo had a car."]

So there you have it folks. Volume production will begin in 2023. If you are 100,000 and above for your place in line, start thinking 2024, or later, the further down the list your spot is.:cry:
You can't know that -- without having two unknowns in hand: the production numbers and the delivery locations.

One small problem. The edge of the shadow of totality misses the Giga factory by a bit over 1 mile. Here's a screen grab from the website that show's all the info on the Eclipse. The area on the right is missing totality. Here's a link to the website below, it's really fun to check out where and when the eclipse will be.

Sure. This is all a bit of guesswork. First year of production I likely around 100k based on past launches.

Its possible they deliver too many to your city and jump you up in line a bit too.

Most of the 0-100k orders will likely have the option to buy in the first year.

A few people in the 100k-150k range have a small chance of getting theirs in the first year of production.

If ramp goes faster might be better than that.

So you are saying there is a chance.
