Nice job! Brackets look clean and minimal too, might have to take mine in and have the dealer retrofit my bar with some. Is that a film you used to cover the lightbar ?

So in the interest of belt and suspenders security, I took my truck into my local SC which agreed to both sell me the parts and do the install. This was of course out of pocket and not warranty. My car is an AWD and the bar was purchased from another member. It was expensive at around $800 for parts and labor. The way I see it it’s like investing in a warranty to some extent because if it flies off I know where I’m taking it. To the people who now installed it, Tesla.
onsite how would play out in real life but that’s how I justified the expense.
Didn’t really have issues with the VHB but now the bar is up to spec with the post-recall bars out there.

Wow. You must have a REALLY good relationship with your SC for them to agree to that.

looks Good nice job. How did you get the service center to do it? Did you access through the app or talk to them in person/phone?

thanks

Our service centers here will not do those brackets unless they have an email. Good for you. At least you have piece of mind.

Talked to them in person. I’ve known the people who now appear to be in charge of that service center since about 2016 and every tech there know “the bluey truck” as they call it. So perhaps it was a little preferential treatment. Not sure how to assess that. They weren’t particularly resistant when I asked, just made sure I knew it was going to be out of pocket. They have always been pretty good to me though.

Yes. I have ppf on the bar in dark blue like my cantrails and this film on the front of it.

Because of the angle of the windshield it creates a reflection that by happy accident is a dead-on match for my cyber glow

i’m getting ready to do my own DIY install of an OEM light bar I picked up for my AWD. After having read this entire thread, is there anyone that still has had it on for a period of time with the tape method or has everyone chickened out? 😬

Mine was on for about 8 months through an Arizona summer and at least weekly non-touch-free car washes before I chickened out.
When I had an opportunity to have Tesla install it the post-recall way and in that sense make it at least a little bit their problem if it failed, I couldn’t resist.
Sorry.

TESLA just recently installed my light bar. They did a good job. It looks good, but I did do it myself, as I recommended the past I would use Goop. It holds like iron. It doesn’t damage the surfaces that is in contact with, if you ever decide to remove or replace the light bar, it can be done without damaging the surfaces. Here is what Grok says……

Amazing GOOP (often just called “Goop” or “GOOP adhesive”) is a popular single-component, solvent-based contact adhesive and sealant from Eclectic Products. It’s widely used for tough repairs and bonding on vehicles, including by Cybertruck owners for attaching accessories like the OEM Beast bar (off-road light bar).

Cybertruck enthusiasts specifically praise GOOP adhesive for its iron-like grip after curing, vibration resistance, and surface safety (it won’t damage paint or materials). One owner in the Cybertruck Owners Club forum called it their top choice for gluing parts based on years of use on cars, boats, and more. cybertruckownersclub.com cybertruckownersclub.com

It’s not the same as Tesla’s official two-part structural repair adhesive (Fusor 2098 / BETAMATE 2098, a blue crash-durable epoxy used in factory repairs and recalls). GOOP is the consumer-grade “goop” product owners reach for in the garage.

Key Specs (from official technical data sheets for standard Amazing GOOP All-Purpose / Household; Automotive and Marine variants are similar with minor tweaks like UV inhibitors)

• Type: Solvent-based contact adhesive/sealant (contains toluene/petroleum distillates; flammable; VOC ~475 g/L in standard formula, lower in II MAX variant).

• Color: Clear (dries transparent).

• Viscosity: ~100,000 cps (thick, gel-like consistency).

• Tack time: ~2 minutes.

• Set time: Thin film ~24 hours; thick film 48–72 hours.

• Full cure: 24–72 hours (depends on thickness, humidity, and temperature).

• Tensile strength: 3,500–3,800 lb/in² (ASTM D-412).

• Elongation: Up to 900% (extremely flexible; stays pliable even in cold weather and won’t become brittle).

• Hardness: 80 Shore A.

• Service temperature range: -40°F to 150°F (-40°C to 66°C) continuous; some variants handle intermittent higher temps.

• Chemical/water resistance: Excellent — fully waterproof (submersible in fresh or salt water after cure); resists dilute acids, bases, and many chemicals.

• UV/abrasion resistance: Good; paint over for long-term UV exposure outdoors.

• Dielectric strength: 400 V/mil (ASTM D-149).

• Other features: Paintable after full cure; abrasion-resistant; bonds to metal, plastic, rubber, glass, wood, leather, vinyl, ceramic, fabric, etc. (not recommended for polyethylene, polypropylene, Styrofoam, or paper). Shelf life: 2 years unopened. Application temp: ideally 50–90°F (10–32°C). pdf.lowes.com eclecticproducts.com images.thdstatic.com

Application tips (from the manufacturer): Clean and roughen surfaces, apply thin coats to both sides, press firmly, and let cure fully. Clean uncured residue with acetone or citrus solvents.

Here are product shots of the classic 3.7 oz tubes (Household, Marine, and Automotive versions) in their retail packaging — the exact “Goop” Cybertruck owners reference.

You can find it at auto parts stores, Amazon, or hardware retailers (often labeled Amazing GOOP Automotive for vehicle use). Let me know if you want details on a specific variant (e.g., Marine or II MAX) or how owners apply it on Cybertrucks!

Man, I’m not totally sold as nobody here has used that yet. Maybe I’ll do goop around the edges to supplement the tape.

thoughts @kingeninc ?

I think if you are able to get a set of the side brackets and install them like Tesla does it almost doesn’t matter what you use because if it comes loose it won’t fly off the car and can then be redone.
I’d say that’s likely Tesla’s engineering rationale for approaching the recall like that.

Of course! Nobody going to argue that.

However, getting our hands on the bracket hardware is the issue as you know.

That said, we eventually got our hands on the light bar itself which was inconceivable a year ago, so anything is possible.

I don’t get it. My SC was completely fine selling me those parts. How does it serve Tesla interests not to? It’s bad PR to have people lose these on the freeway.
And if they are being assholes, there are third party shops who have ordering privileges and can order from the Tesla catalogue. They will gladly take your money I think.
