Im getting the ClearVu rear camera jizzer kit installed real soon instead. Got the kit in my hands already.
I like what it's doing but dont like the jizz that lays all over the rear gate after the jizzing occurs. Much prefer a compressed air system there as a quick sharp whoosh would be more elegant. Actually, prefer Tesla fix the design problem but not holding breath.

Hmmm did not think of that. Will see. Usually will be using it in the rain so hope the rain will wash most of it off anyways

Do you have it already?

Yeah, this isn't causing an accident lol. I'm curious if the camera magnification changed since this was developed? I know the Christmas update brought the ability to zoom the camera but otherwise, this would have easy been caught with the initial samples. I haven't received mine yet so I don't know if/how much it will bug me. I've always had good experiences with Abstract Ocean so I'm sure they will refund those who decide they don't like it
Thanks, and yes, of course we'll refund anyone that's not happy with it. I have loads of photos of when we first tested back in July and there was nothing in the corners, and I would have noticed, so I'm curious if the 'square' view got slightly wider with 2024.45.25.5. Not that it matters, it is what it is, and this is the peril of any Tesla accessory, so much changes, all the time, often without any warning or announcement.
Ordered, Keeping rear zoom at around 1.2x lately so thinking the corners are a non-issue. fingers crossed.
I just played around with this. Any zoom down to 0.8 is fine, the super-wide view at 0.5 does show some occlusion in the top corners.

As the go-forward plan:
  • We’ve started production prep for a V2. We’re switching to a gel adhesive (aka PVT adhesive), this will realize a depth saving of about 0.5mm (e.g. the assembly will be closer to the lens, so the field of view will widen). The protective film will also be easier to remove. I don't think this will entirely solve the issue for the (zoom level) 0.5 view on the ‘rearview mirror', but it should solve the other issues. We expect to have these in 3-4 weeks.
  • We're also discussing a V3, which will likely involve a formfactor adjustment. This is a more significant change that requires requalification, as there are other considerations in terms of material tension, moisture ingress and ensuring it doesn’t distort the image. This will be an iterative process, so I don't have a tight date currently, but "summer" should cover it.
For those that have purchased and not requested/received a refund:
  • For those who have a subscription, we’ll automatically send a v2 as soon as they arrive. Your subscription plan will remain as scheduled, and you can adjust/skip through the subscription portal (find the link on your account page).
  • For all other V1 purchasers (current and future), as soon as we have the V2’s in stock we’ll send out a notification and a discount code for 50% off.
I'm sorry about the issues, making stuff is hard sometimes, and making stuff for Tesla’s is often like nailing Jello to the wall, the target is always moving. But, we'll make it right, and I honestly think the concept is good, the product today is certainly useable for most, and it'll continue to improve.

This is why Abstract Ocean is awesome at customer service. Always doing right by the customer. I've been buying accessories from them since my 2013 Model S days and I've never been disappointed.

Yup. I need to figure out the mechanics of everything, but assuming you're signed up for email marketing we'll send something out to all CT owners once we've fulfilled any backlog.

Thanks. I have this on my MY and have no issues. Waiting for the Highland to be released.

IMO it is worth it even with the slightly smaller field of view. Was an unbelievable difference in the rain.

Got mine installed and the difference is night and day. It definitely works but does restrict the view. In backup view, it's very noticable but given it's effectiveness at reducing water spots, not a deal breaker. My normal rear view camera is 1x. No occlusion there or at 1.25x. You can see it at .5x.

I'll be looking forward to v2. In the meantime, is there any special care I need to take when cleaning it?

Not really. You can extend it's life by removing any obvious muck gently using a soft cloth and isoprop, so a typical lens cleaner is ideal for this. If the dirt is really obnoxious (it shouldn't be, obviously, since it shouldn't stick) then flush it with clean water first, it's important not to create any pits in the film, as they'll ultimately give the dirt something to latch onto.

If you have a Waterpik, or something similar, that's a great way to flush it clean. Just maybe don't tell anyone in the house if it's a shared Pik :)

Only rated for FOUR to SIX months!! poo. That totally sucks. I found this out after spending $30 for this and it does not even fit well and blocks the outer edges (circle) of the view. 2/10 at best

This is typical of any hydrophobic product exposed to the elements. I mentioned it in the video, on the webpage and FAQ, and that's why there's a subscription option, but it's not our intention to mislead anyone into thinking it lasts forever, so please let me know if there's a better way I can communicate this.

Thanks for refund, biggest issue was the circular orb like reflection it creates when the sun is behind you. It was at one point so intense it blocked out a motorcycle riding in the lane next to me. Don’t know how you can correct this issue, but if you do it seems you took care of the two other concerns then I would be happy to purchase again. In the mean time rainx seems to work well

Yup same issues as observed.
1) Sun spots
2) back up camera view is limited around the circle perimeter
3) condensation
4) limited lifetime.
*** A refund would be nice, I can send the unit back.
Thanks.
Perhaps a angled shield would be better then a full cover. I had to use something similar on the automatic doors on hotel entrance to just divert the rain.
