Damn. That’s a lot of CT inventory.

I count 12 rows that are 4 deep in the photo. That’s at least 48 Cybertruck’s.
We know there were from 300-800 in inventory mid-December, due to leaked memos and counted vehicles leaving the factory vs registered.

Which is like nothing compared to the inventory held by other automakers. It's just unusual for Tesla.

That‘s a LOT of unsold CT inventory on the books. Double that $4.3M number with the newest photo showing a row 22 wide. Let’s call it $8M to be conservative.

It makes me wonder if there is a tad bit of truth to this “Cybertruck sales are disastrous“ FUD story. The nearly 500 comments all seem to be negative towards the Cybertruck, but it is Electrek.

That's... A weird $88k per unit you're counting there.

Generally, also, it's not MSRP that's counted in inventory value but how much they spent getting it there.

Most of the comments I read over there seem to be along the line of - Tesla promised lower pricing and greater range than what was actually delivered and that is why they did not go through with their reservation.
Those are both true.

People believe whatever they want to believe. As Tesla doesn’t invest in marketing, people believe whatever they are told to believe. It’s up to CT owners who believe in the capabilities of the truck to spread the awareness. There will always be people who spread false narratives in news and forums, but truth will eventually emerge. Customers voice speak louder than any marketing megaphone, and customers (real CT owners) have already given the verdict - Cybertruck is the best driving and utility machine in the automotive industry!

I'm sure they'll eventually move, although demand may be soft (not stagnant), not everyone is eligible for the $7500 and many buyers likely exceed those income levels and would not care about "qualifying" vehicles.
What are the income level caps to qualify?

I’ve Read that people ar e losing their butts off because the FS series was so much higher…. But everyone knew that when they purchased. The 80K price point was never a secret after launch

The federal EV credit is now available at the dealers, can be applied as down payment - no income requirement or tax burden limited. Only limited by MSRP of vehicle + content requirements.
There is still an income requirement. If you don’t qualify and receive it at the point of sale as a credit, you will have to repay the IRS. You still have to file the form with the IRS at tax time even if you receive it at the point of sale.

As per the IRS:
Who Qualifies:

You may qualify for a credit up to $7,500 under Internal Revenue Code Section 30D if you buy a new, qualified plug-in EV or fuel cell electric vehicle (FCV). The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 changed the rules for this credit for vehicles purchased from 2023 to 2032.

The credit is available to individuals and their businesses.

To qualify, you must:
  • Buy it for your own use, not for resale
  • Use it primarily in the U.S.
In addition, your modified adjusted gross income (AGI) may not exceed:
  • $300,000 for married couples filing jointly or a surviving spouse
  • $225,000 for heads of households
  • $150,000 for all other filers
I suspect that for most of us, the income limits will not be a disqualifying problem.

What?! The list shows both the CT Dual and Single motor at $80k? Somebody‘s got this badly typo’d One way or the other or does that mean Tesla is going to build the Single motor sooner?
They are both capped at up to $80k. The RWD model will be less, but with options to upgrade up to $80k. Still someone at Tesla told the government that the RWD is coming.

I have been tracking inventory at my local service center for months before I purchased and while it looks like they don't move, they were certainly were selling as the VINs were regularly changing.

The talk about unsold inventory is all very interesting but mostly just fake news. Less than 800 inventory trucks, if true, is insanely low compared to where they should be for healthy (sales-maximizing) operations. Suppose Tesla produced 100 trucks per day (way less than the plan) and it took on average 14 days to match with consumers (unreasonably fast in an inventory-based market even without dealerships) they would have 1400 trucks in inventory status. They have, at most, a few hundred at any given time.

This means that customers who buy a vehicle on short notice, which is a large part of the auto market, do not have the ability to find a Cybertruck in their preferred trim. This means lost sales as a consequence of production being insufficient to meet demand.

In my area (south of Nashville) for example, there are NO inventory trucks within deliverable range except a few leftover Foundation Series. Tesla is still operating in almost exclusively build-to-order status for CT.

Unfortunately, this means I don't expect them to pull any demand levers like RWD or hasten tax credit eligibility by scavenging eligible 4680 supply away from model 3 and model Y. I'm guesstimating that the credit-eligible CT may ship when Model Y production slows for the refresh, and there are plenty of eligible 4680's?
