Hit hard enough in the RR that the rear tire slammed into the 'inner rocker-frame) and split it open. Control arm bolts mount into cast aluminum frame and the impact sheered those bolts. Tesla says the body shop can buy their 'patch kit', cut the rear aspect of the frame out, pop rivet the patch kit in and the truck would be good to go. Frame machine as shop does NOT have the factory specs to measure the 'repair' the frame....thoughts on splcing a frame on a brand new truck?

It is a option. Tesla has instructions for full and partial casting repairs:
https://service.tesla.com/docs/Cybe...UID-4C3F3F0D-5803-4896-A60F-5DB778018F10.html

Looks like it would need a frame bench to check the other side since one half is tweaked.

Thank you for the info. Less than 5k on the truck and I am concerned about sectioning the cast aluminum 'rear under body'....

I would get this repair done at a Tesla Collision center. Wouldn't trust anyone else.

100% agree. I had mine repaired the the TCC in Fort Lauderdale last month, and nothing short of 1st class handling of my repair. The TCC is Tesla, and people need to know this. They are set up specifically for these types of repairs and nobody else really is at the end of the day. Maybe they will be in several years, and maybe "some" collision related repairs can be done by others, but anything major, go to a TCC even if it's 500 miles away.

Thank you for sharing
I was just rear ended and the truck is behaving strangely Toney cover doesn’t always close and there is a lot of creaking wile driving. The stangest thing is the truck seams to flex now. Depending on how I’m parked the distance on driver side back row panel gaps changes.
driver struck right side of the bumper, hitch and tailgate. Not sure the speed but probably less than 40mph. Visibly truck looks fine, other than the bumper, hitch, and the corner of the tailgate, but I’m wondering if the casting is damaged. With no TCC within 1k miles I’m not sure what to do.
How did you accident happen?

Interesting on what they said they would do. Vehicles are "cut and patched" all the time but on steel vehicles frame damage is often totaling.

I was curious how Tesla was going to handle this with the castings. If they can cut a chunk out clean and get that chunk as a replacement (preset pieces) and weld them back in that would be pretty cool. Harder to do that with tempered steel frames and maintain proper integrity.

accidents happen and I have not ever seen or taken one of these apart but for those of us who do stupid shit.,,, Thinking out loud that a couple plates of steel and a cradle going up and around that casting would effectively eliminate the casting aluminum weakness. Thus like when receiver hitches first came out reinforced the frame . That way whistlinpunk and jerrycannotrig's testing would be mute at that point. Any ideas from designers? I thought about a plate going down the sides of the bed and two slots cut so that I could use 5 ft bracing in the bed itself and welded to the hitch would help. They did it with the first goose neck and 5th wheel hitches. Why not?
