My first adventure was 4 months ago in early December driving the brand new Cyber off the boat in anchorage to fairbanks alaska 360 miles in the dead of winter -20F during a snow storm state-wide. Today was a shorter drive only 57 miles out and 57 more back.

Finally the roads are clearing up and the temperatures are climbing enough to allow me to push the cyber truck in the great north to find its limits off-grid beyond conventional charging locations and dirt road conditions.

  • I charged to 100% and departed after-noon today. Really impressed by the range from the start of the trip, I got in 5 miles before it dropped to 99%!
  • The interior cabin was 72F without Climate control, the sun was just filling up the interior with wonderful free warmth so I drove without climate on.
  • The temperature was at 45F-50F, which is the warmest long spell we have had since I picked up in Seattle from tesla.
  • Road conditions were mostly clear, with patches of ice melting into slush that grabs your tires and pulls you into swashes.
  • I did take many stops on the way out, maybe 4 to pee and or take photos.

The results were better than I had predicted based on my 4 months of ownership and mostly colder temps. There is some elevation gain and a few downhill sections where i even gained a +1% after sustained regen.

This is about half way the distance I would travel in hunting season, 57 miles. I would normally go about 115+ miles and then go further with a SxS and camp setup. After mile 87 the road is dirt no more pavement with many potholes.

There is even more elevation gain out to final hunting zone but it might be a few degrees warmer then too, If I can keep the pace that will also help offset the trailer/sxs hauling.

30.3 miles @ 91% SoC /// 365 kwh
57.3 miles @ 83% SoC /// 364.4 kwh
85.1 miles @ 76% SoC /// 334.8 kwh
96.1 miles @ 72% SoC /// 350.6 kwh
113 miles @ 68% SoC /// 331.3 kwh

...running a generator of 9k on 20lb can or higher at 23amps for 17-20 hours.
I'd want to ask him questions like:
  • How do you run at >5kW on a 20lb without it icing up?
  • Isn't 24 hours at 6kW going to full charge the truck?
  • And isn't that 4-6 bottles in that time?
Lots of questions!

This is the major benefit we have in Alaska...we tend to average 50-60mph much of the time, since the roads call for it. As a result, we get great range compared to the folks driving 70-80mph down south.

I'm also envisioning hunting trips this fall. I would be super interested in seeing a generator setup if you come to any conclusions.

Not yet, watching another guys videos on Youtubes he has a CT in high elevation Colorado and used propane and gas generators to fill his up. Based on his calcuations you can get about 10-20% charge from running a generator of 9k on 20lb can or higher at 23amps for 17-20 hours.

So im contemplating cost of material for a mobile solar system vs generator propane or diesel.
what do you mean by generator of 9K?

Here’s what ChatGPT says:

Can You Charge a Cybertruck with a Predator 3500 Generator?

Here’s the breakdown:

Cybertruck Basics:
  • Battery Size: ~123 kWh
  • Efficiency: ~2.5 miles per kWh
  • Full Range: ~300 miles
Predator 3500 Specs:
  • Continuous Power: 3,000 watts (3 kW)
  • Fuel Tank Size: 2.64 gallons
  • Runtime: ~11 hours at 25% load (~875 watts)

Charging Estimates:
  • To fully charge the Cybertruck (123 kWh) at 3kW output:
    ~41 hours nonstop charging
  • Generator fuel use at full load (~0.3 gallons/hour):
    Total fuel needed: ~12.3 gallons
  • You’ll need to refuel the generator about 5 times.
Range per Gallon of Gasoline:
  • Each gallon provides about 10 kWh of charge.
  • 10 kWh * 2.5 miles/kWh = ~25 miles of driving range per gallon of gasoline.
Summary:
  • Charging would be extremely slow (over 40 hours for full charge).
  • Gasoline needed for a full charge would be around 12–13 gallons.
  • Best use case would be emergency or remote situations — not practical for regular use.

You also have to look into THD, if its too high the charger wont work. So a premium generator with a low THD value is necessary
