In the age of iPhone, social media and internet?? I would say it is NOT "some" but rather "a very few weirdos"
I can’t even tell if you’re being serious

the cohort of people buying $100-$120K trucks leans NOT toward the super-online crowd

even MEMBERS of this forum are around here consistently asking where to even look for their RN, “manage,” etc.

seems like some sort of glitch must have happened to the second wave of invites.

my hypothesis/theory ... PPL who didn't receive an invite email on 12/15 but was able to order by looking into their account. Those accounts were not meant to be ordered and are the ones "rescinded".

https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/posts/7969812/
All plausible, except depending on what you mean by:

“The Foundation series isn't "Sold-out" per se, in fact, Tesla intends to continue with the weekly release of limited order spots for the entire 2024.”

I you mean they intent do continue to have order waves, Foundarion or normal retail units, then sure b

if instead you mean they intend to sell Foundarion through all of 2024, then that is not the current plan

And the reservation still shows up, so that's good!!!
Im in colorado also with a RN1127579xx

i was curious if anyone from CO had received the email. There are plenty of orders already placed with a RN far below mine. I'm hoping they will at least send a couple car carriers to Denver loaded with foundation series CTs

I'm in Delaware with RN112843, with cash-in-hand, and haven't heard a peep from Tesla. From what I've read, granted mostly rumor and speculation, I won't be able to order my Cyberbeast until mid-2024 at the latest (but hope I'm wrong!)

With a number that low, you could be in next Friday's wave (assuming their is one), or early 2024, or mid-2024

Meanwhile, it wouldn't be out of question (or without historical precedent), for tesla to simply blow up "the line" altogether and start taking meaningful deposits from the first people who click 'buy'

I think Tesla just charged too low of a reservation fee to start with for this one. $100 is nothing to most people. They needed to make it higher so it would get the serious people that would buy. Now they need to get through all these reservations that are not serious first to find the people that will buy now and not change their mind.

Proportional to the number of reservations, Tesla has never "blown up the line" anywhere near this early.

With the Model 3, I was a day two reservation holder. I was invited to configure in June of 2018, about 12 months after the initial delivery event. They "opened the queue" about a month later. Yes, new reservations *could* potentially get their cars a month or so after I did, but my reservation still got me ahead of the "Johnny Come Latelys" if I wanted an initial configuration LR RWD, which I took. There were not a lot of EARLY reservations left behind me in the line. I was also able to get Obsidian Black Metallic, a color which was pulled before the order queue was opened up to all.

Respectfully, I feel that claiming that Tesla has a history of abandoning the reservation queue when only about 0.1% of reservationists have been invited to order is very inaccurate and disingenuous.

I've experienced that Tesla has appreciated and honored the early commitment of their reservations, at least to the extent of the geographical launch territories. I feel your opinion is unjustly colored by folks "promised" a short range $35k Model 3, and those from outside the US and Canada. (Similarly, CT reveal night Single Motor and non-North America reservations will likely be disappointed, but I very much doubt that other than "VIPs" cutting the line, anyone in USA or Canada who accepts an AWD or Tri-Motor CT will have the chance to order one before they "blow up the line").

based on tone, apologies if you’ve taken offense

based on content, your comments put me uncertain of what to say - your anecdotal account is not consistent with the anecdotal accounts I’ve seen from others, and the facts as I understand them ??‍♂

now I only have dueling anecdotal accounts

Let me see where you correct my understanding of the facts or your point.

Please correct me on the following info as I know it:

  • For the Model 3 pre-orders, Tesla required not $100, but $1000 (refundable)
  • You were a day 2 Reservation Holder
  • By August 2017, there were 455,000 net reservations.
  • July 28 2017, Model 3 Delivery Event
  • June of 2018, you took delivery
  • July 20 2018, Tesla opens reservations to anyone with a $2,500 (non-refundable), including topping up from people who previously had $1K res’s down

Separately, help me understand your view of the numbers:

  • In all of 2017, Tesla delivered 1,800 M3
  • By July ‘18, had delivered 28,216 M3
  • Meaning, when Tesla opened reservations, there remained 424,984 ‘early’ reservation holderswho had not taken delivery

Which stats are why a day 2 reservation holder, such as yourself, hadn’t taken delivery until June 2018. Tesla had delivered only 6% of Mod 3 early res holders when they opened reservations in July 2018.

From there, best I can understand your comments, is you *seem* to suggest that

(A) this is fine
(B) you got some features people after you didn’t (but boy, there a LOT of people after you)
(C) you suggest, but don’t come out and say, that people who put down $2,500 deposits in July didn’t get their cars until after 425K people with $1,000

this last suggestion (maybe you didn’t intend it), is incorrect.

Subsequent to July 2018, whether an original or “Johnny come lately” (your words), Mod 3s were delivered ~equally (all else equal).

Which is why there are plenty of anecdotal reports out there from early Mod 3 reservation holders - who stood in a physical line to give $1,000 to Tesla - who didn’t take delivery until after their neighbor, brother in law, etc., who were a “Johnny come lately.”

So I’m left still unsure what I’m misunderstanding about either your post, or the relevant facts.

At which point, let’s go back to your this comment:

Proportional to the number of reservations, Tesla has never "blown up the line" anywhere near this early.
proportionately, only ~60,000 CTs (of ~1M relevant pre-orders) would need to be delivered before opening reservations to mirror the M3 situation.

And with the M3 situation, that was after people had stood in physical lines outside stores to put down $1,000.

Now, my earlier comment you replied to above was brief and pithy. The intent wasn’t to seriously suggest a likelihood that Tesla would open new reservations as early as mid-2024. Or that there’s precedent they’ve don’t it this early.

More that, in terms of historical precedent, Tesla isn’t above even blowing up lines. And that, where predicting what Tesla will do with the CT, anything unexpected seems possible these days.

Afterall, Tesla is currently and already not following reservation numbers, or historical precedent, so as to let people with $20K premiums step forward - and appears to be planning to do so for months and a few thousand units to come.

If
Tesla has by ~August of 2024 taken ~30K configurations (half of the 6% / 60K figure), would it be so bananas to say Tesla could allow new people to configure?

I think it’s very unlikely they’ll have configured 30K by then, or will open the configurations in 2024.

But if I’m being brief and pithy, right now I wouldn’t bet against anything - afterall, Tesla’s shown their not above it.

I reserved my model 3 in late 2017 and got it in July of 2018. So I definitely jumped the line for some reason.
