I know this isn’t a $500,000 McLaren, but the tax in my state is around 6% and I know some are higher. Especially when you factor in the inspections and yearly property tax.

Has anyone registered in Montana for new car purchase? What has your experience been and have you used a service?

I looked into it after I placed the order but the app asked for a Montana drivers license and I gave up at that point.

The good news for me in King County WA is that a truck that weighs more than 6000lb is not subject to the RTA excise tax every year.

That RTA tax was one of the many reasons I left the state. I ended up registering all my cars at my mom’s place in ravensdale to avoid it till I could leave.
I’m in Wyoming now and the taxes for everything is so low I don’t mind paying them. It’s one of the few places where you can actually see the tax dollars working.

All these governments are seeming to crack down on it. But I don’t think Tesla cares about it, the license requirement is for ID verification purposes.

We have homes in 3 states. Tesla needed copy of our deed in Montana, as our residence is in another state. Had nothing to do with Tesla. It was the paperwork that the state taking delivery requires from Tesla when no tax was being paid. One can't take delivery in Montana.

The DL is the first roadblock, but one phone call solved that. It was the SC and the docs there that made the second more annoying roadblock.

Truck should be more than 50% in that state, but we travel so much we don't have a problem driving in another state for 6 months or so before we move on. Musical states is a nice thing.

Most of the people I know that do the Montana LLC thing are all around cheap. Just saying.

Nothing wrong with that. If I hadn't been frugal all these years I wouldn't be in the happy situation where I can contemplate early retirement in my 40s!

When states start adopting householding as a means of collecting revenue. The little game will be over. As it should. Pay your fair share, as many of us do. Insurers are using data as well. License plate readers share that data base.

Bravo for you on retirement. I didn't mean to start a pissing contest on wealth. LOL. You folks crack me up here.

I always wonder when people say that. What if you die when your 50? How was that life? I prefer the other route. Enjoy along the way, do what I want on my terms, and make more. Which me being in the same age group. I couldn't imagine walking away from free money just to say I am retired even though I could do just as you.

Again Bravo! Still stand by my cheap comment.

as a business owner, the system is made to take loopholes and if you don’t take the loopholes, somebody else will. It’s not illegal. It’s just using the tools and resources that are given to you. Maybe it’s cheap but I rather have my money than give it to Nancy Pelosi, and her boyfriend.
