On Tuesday night a bomb cyclone (fancy word for high wind) hit Washington State (we are 20 minutes NE of Seattle)

We had plenty of warning so I managed to get the truck charged to 96% before the power went out at 10:30pm.

We are nearing 48 hours in the dark and still out, here are a few photos and stats from my setup.

We currently have 51% left!! So for arguments sake, let’s peg our usage at 1% an hour

5000 sq/f house with 6 residents…

NEMA 14-50 to L14-30 cable
L14-30 receptacle
10 circuit 30A transfer switch

2 refrigerator/freezer combos
1 full size garage freezer
1 nat gas furnace (so blower only really)
1 large TV
20+ LED can lights
Various plugs for personal devices

And a bunch of other appliances (air-fryer, coffee maker etc…) Running on and off.

I am probably forgetting a few things, but just goes to show how much it can power and the long lasting massive battery.

Spread the word you don’t necessarily need the PowerShare stuff. Just need a transfer switch and a cable!!! These things are awesome.

I would also like to include there are various styles of transfer switches. Newer ones that basically integrate to your panel so you don’t have to pre-determine your 10 circuits.

We’re in maple valley. Got hammered but power just came back on!

I’ve got a fairly large aquarium, and some smaller ones I’m accustomed to getting generator fired up. I’ve been holding out on transfer switch until I got my CT so I’m looking to doing something similar now that I’ve got it. Extension cords for the job done this go around. Just running into the house for tanks and fridge and some lights.

I lost about 1% an hour running about 75% of what it looks like you pulled.

I’m saving this post for sure and coming back to it, thanks for sharing. And hello neighbor!

I love hearing these stories. I kinda want the power to go out so I can use the Cybertruck to power the home. I have a generator inlet box installed next to my panel with an interlock switch. Based on my current energy usage (we don't have AC in the SF Bay Area), I consume on average 17 kw per day. So in theory I could get 5.7 days of power back up from the truck before I hit the 20% mark. Lets just call it 5 days.

I also have the Tesla Backup Gateway that came with the truck, but it is not turned on yet because my local utility (Pacific Gas & Electric) is fighting with Tesla over the use of this product. Tesla is hoping to have this resolved by the end of the calendar year.

The most surprising part of the post is the amount of refrigerator/freezers you have.

I installed powershare, and used 12% in a day. Power came back on Wednesday
Has power share been released to everyone with the cyber truck ? I still don't have it on my app. I already have 23k in solar and 3 Tesla power walls with a gateway. I really want to try out the power share and see if there's enough solar to re fill the batteries after a winter's night. I run a full electric house. 26K yearly

I don't have power wall and solar, I got gateway and universal charger installed and the engineer registered me on Tesla. My app was enabled after a day or two. If you already have power wall, gateway etc, you might still need the universal wall charger then you can contact Tesla to enable power sharing for you

Not quite a house but on my road trip to FLA and back we used the truck to power the camper all night at rest areas. Worked great, ran the electric water heater, fridge, TV, hair dryer and coffee pot in the AM. It used almost an unnoticeable amount of the battery more then sentry mode alone. I am looking forward to dry camping and seeing how long the truck can power my small camper without stranding myself.

We are multigenerational with 7 people in the house. Needs lots of food! (Didn’t mention the drink fridge on the deck and my IGLOOO electric cooler for the truck)

The most surprising part of the post is the amount of refrigerator/freezers you have.

I have the same setup (generator inlet box and interlock switch) and live in the Seattle area. We just went through 5 days without power and the Cybertruck powered everything wonderfully. Even had enough power to run the washer and dryer. Given how it performed, I wouldn't recommend the Tesla Backup Gateway based on the electrical install cost. Install costs for an inlet box and interlock switch is much cheaper.

I agree on the cost aspect. If I move to a new home and had to make the decision, I would go the manual route and forgo the PowerShare due to the cost difference.

Does the truck require a manual restart every 12 hours for the 240v outlet? Does it need to "cool off" or it just continues uninterrupted?

It requires a manual restart and it doesn't need to cool off. The power draw seems minimal compared to what driving it would be. When it's powering the home, the truck makes little to no noise.

Ah ok. Yeah, I ran my house using just the nema 14-50 outlet, hooked up to my 50A transfer switch + interlock kit, but only for a few hours at a time. I've since gotten the PowerShare gateway installed so I'm no longer capped at 12 hours, I was just always curious if it had no cooldown period, if the UI simply let you "extend" the time the inverter was on.

I use closer to 50kWh a day during the winter so it would really only last me 2 days before I was at critically low power, but that's with our entire home cranking the heat (geothermal heat pumps), hot water heater, stove, fridge, lights, etc. I'm both excited for a long outage, and obviously terrified of what that would mean for my town if it were to happen.
