Will Tesla be able to sell the current version Cybertruck for 80k or less, and why would they?

If the Cybertruck is a superior vehicle to the Model S and Model X why would the current version of the Cybertruck ever sell for less?

Where will Tesla cut costs in future versions, and why would someone with a current order wait to find out?

I think they are already producing the current version for less than $80K in direct costs. If you are asking why they would sell it for $80K or less, well, to carry out their stated corporate mission to accelerate the transition to sustainable energy. Pickups are popular in America, and they burn a lot of oil. Tesla wants to sell the Cybertruck in high volumes.

Sales of Model S and Model X are a tiny fraction of Tesla's sales and haven't grown in years. In terms of the growth of Tesla, only Models 3, Y and Cybertruck matter. Elon just keeps S&X around mostly for sentimental reasons and because their development costs have been paid off. It wouldn't surprise me to see them axe the Model X from the lineup within the next 3 years. Not many people want to spend that much money on Sedans and Sport-Utility Sedans. The pickup market in the US is many times that of the luxury sedan market. In the US, that's where the future growth is.

I can see them having the Tonneau cover as an option. Probably like a 4-5k option
Probably not, the tonneau is so integral to the design, it adds much more to the value proposition than it costs Tesla. A Cybertruck without the tonneau would not be a popular configuration and Tesla doesn't want to do low volume configurations.

I bet they already make the awd truck for less than 80k. The fs upcharge is about 15k of actual value added, 5k early adopter fee. If you take out the gigacasting and other machinery fixed costs they are already probably in high single digits profit margin per vehicle. It is just matter of time until they sell enough to pay off the sunk machinery and R&D costs to be making an overall profit on the cybertruck division.

Thanks for your reply. I edited the original post to say “sell”

The questions are to open the conversation.

That would result in a sub 300mile range on both the AWD and Beast. It is a HUGE aerodynamic aide that allows for a low drag coefficient. Making it an option is never going to happen

Yet no other truck on the market comes with one
Ahhh!!!!

NO other full-size electric pickup has energy efficiency of Cybertruck. The shape of Cybertruck and the tonneau enclosed bed are integral to that efficiency.
* Chevy Silverado EV pickup has almost 210KwH battery.

Telsa is only successful new mass production car manufacturer in USA in over 60 years.

Telsa is only successful new mass production car manufacturer making profit on EVs.

If everybody else was jumping off a deathly high cliff would you jump too?

Sometimes mostly everybody else is wrong on a idea or action.

Elon talked on the subject of 'Cost Grind' to reduce manufacturing cost by 20% and compared this to a 'Game of Thones' that would be a 'Game of Pennies'
Let's say it takes 18 months or more for the markets outside of North America where the design rules vary and as such changes would happen..... as a Day 1 reservation holder, l would be happy to wait.
They plan for a non FS version end of third quarter or sometime in the last months of the year. Hold on to your Cowboy Hat ?

At the Annual Shareholder's Meeting last week, Elon revealed they will be starting the non-Foundation sales shortly. I would be surprised if it gets delayed to the end of the third quarter.
