I'm not sure if it was the carrier they're using or something up with my particular hardware. I've not used it that much, but I actually wanted to try to use the streaming service and it would only partially play a little bit of a song here or there and then immediately go to network connection failed or some such message.

Did you try a two scroll wheel hold to reset? That's usually my go-to.

This was an issue with many vehicles yesterday in certain areas, even non Tesla vehicles.

It must have been the carrier as I was going to watch YouTube while the wife ran an errand and it was useless while normally very good.

I would like to understand cell carrier service in Tesla’s and other vehicles. My phone is connected to ATT cell service and I pay ATT for it. Is there a generic cell service all cars use that allow switching between ATT, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc? How does Tesla pay for that and who do they pay? Can’t believe there are roaming charges. Anyone know?

Oh, I bet at some point Teslas will use SpaceX’s Starlink satillites somehow, but that isn’t cell service. I saw somewhere where CTs have 4G and not 5G.

So not just me. It would be nice if Tesla would let us know what was up.
Also, it would be cool to have the option of Android Auto/Carplay.

Same on Central California. My CT and my wife’s MY both lost network connection for a while.

Tesla pays AT&T to provide bulk cellular service to all Tesla. As far as I know, AT&T doesn't contract with other carriers to provide backup support, but I'm sure it's possible, especially in areas where AT&T doesn't have good coverage. I would guess that AT&T doesn't charge Tesla for roaming, if there are other networks in use, they simply quote contract prices that cover the amount of roaming that is expected.

This is a symbiotic relationship that AT&T and Tesla have because the bulk of the Tesla data doesn't demand low latency (maps, movies and music are always buffered) and none of it requires latency as low as a simple voice call. This means AT&T can prioritize voice and put Tesla's data in between, when there are momentary surpluses of capacity, even during periods when the network is under high loads.

I don't have AT&T service, so I can't say if the cars are able to connect where AT&T doesn't have native coverage.
