Does anyone know where I can find the chassis rating for the cybertruck? I have a foundation series truck and wanted to rent some equipment from a local rental yard (I'm a contractor) and they won't rent this piece of equipment which is 8800# to a truck less than 3/4 ton rated chassis. I know that I can tow more than this and shared that, won't let it out the yard until I can show written chassis rating! If anyone knows please let me know. Thanks

There is a tow rating / tongue weight rating in the owners manual. I would share that with them. Otherwise, they need to specify what document they want. My guess is they are concerned with the tongue weight limits, but that should be around 1,000 lbs. An 8,800 lb. piece of equipment is probably on a 2,500 lb. trailer. And pretty much maxing out your truck.

Registration / plate designation is only for GVW of 10,000 lbs. for example and doesn't designate towing weight. So they probably don't need or care about that.

Thanks for the reply. I already shared both max tow and tongue specs, they need chassis rating.

Cybertruck is between 1/2 to 3/4 ton class.

With trailer, the 8800# equipment might be over limit for Cybertruck.

What is weight of the equipment and trailer?

What is tongue weight of the equipment and trailer?

What is other payload in truck (driver, passengers, stuff in frunk, stuff in cab, stuff in bed)?

I am going to suggest even if they will do it, have it delivered and picked up. I rent more than a few times a year heavier equipment and it just does not pay to move it yourself if you do not have a dually.
So many variables and rental companies always work with you.
Also check your insurance for towing clause on what they will and will not cover.

Maybe they mean gross vehicle weight rating GVWR. That info is on or near the Vin sticker on the drivers door frame. It should be over 9000 lbs. Ask whoever wants to know, where is that info found on a ford/chevy/dodge/rivian etc. It should be located in a similar location on the tesla

The issue is that the "Truck Chassis Category" does not indicate its cargo or towing capacity.

The Truck Chassis Category is a traditional measure of the typical capabilities of the vehicle. This is where you find "light duty", "medium duty", and "Heavy duty" trucks. Unfortunately, this is measured solely on GVWR:

- Light Duty: up to 14,000 pounds (class 1 - 3) - CT would be a class 2 vehicle with GVWR between 6,001 and 10,000 pounds at it sits between 8,900 and 9,200 pounds GVWR
- Medium Duty: 14,001 - 26,000 pounds (class 4 - 6)
- Heavy Duty: Over 26,000 pounds (class 7 - 8)

The CT is different as the weight of the engine and transmission is considerably lighter than an equivalent ICE vehicle - so they should be looking at capacities instead of vehicle weight.

CT has a towing capacity of 11,000 ponds, hitch weight of 1,100 pounds, and a cargo capacity of 2,500 pounds giving it a GCWR of 20,200 pounds. Similar to that of a Chevy Silverado 2500.

My family owns a rental yard. We would usually do not rent to anyone hauling that weight unless they had a 3/4 ton truck or bigger. If its even close we don't allow it to leave unless we know them very well. You are probably fine but trust me, they see a lot of idiots wreck stuff. We had a brand new skid steer with brand new trailer get totaled 1/2 a mile from our yard. He had a 250 or 350 van which we usually don't allow any vans. His hitch collapsed and broke. (Probably from rust). I'm assuming you're renting a 3.5 ton mini ex or mid-size track skid steer. If you can, just go down one class to 3 ton mini ex or 7500lb-8klb skid steer and you should be fine.

"In more technical terms, trucks now are broken into classes by the Federal Highway Administration. The FHWA uses a trucks Gross Vehicle Weight Rating to assign it a class...

So, to answer the question of what a 3/4-ton truck is, by the government's definition it simply is any pickup with a GVWR that falls between 8,501 and 10,000 pounds."
https://www.motortrend.com/features/what-is-three-quarter-ton-truck/

The GVWR of the Cybertruck is between 8,834 lb and 9,169 lb per the manual.

From the Tesla Certificate of Conformity:

Vehicle Category: Heavy Duty Vehicle (> 8500 lbs. GVW)

The same document that states:

To maintain service life, the battery pack should be stored at a state of charge (SOC) of 15 to 50%.
