Compressor noise coming from rear...is it normal?

I've had my cybertruck now for about 10 weeks. It's been my daily driver and have put several thousand miles on it. So far I've had the Tesla Service center fix the squeaking nose from the seats rubbing on the center console (put some lubricant on it), they fixed a broken clip in the dashboard above the glovebox which was making a noise (the noise is back so I need to take it in again for another clip fix...hoping the technician didn't put it on right vs it continuing to break), and they fixed the paint on my rims after the aerowheel covers left scratches since I had to remove due to recall.

Now, I notice everytime I drive I can hear what I think is the air compressor turning on several times while driving. I don't remember hearing this over the past few months so I'm assuming there is a leak or something causing it to need to come on regularly. Before I go down that road, I wanted to see what other owners experiences are. Is this something you all hear? Perhaps it's normal since I know there is an compressor and airtank below the truck bed.

For more context, when this happens my suspension isn't actively changing. It's set to medium and it will happen even while at a red light. I do have the setting for it to lower when we park to entry mode, but it has been this way since I took delivery back in mid Jan.

It is good to hear about things like this and maybe the forum needs a dedicated page to keep track of these [all] issues and the status of their being resolved, both on a personal level and for the build. I know that my garage air compressor, if there is a leak in the hose fitting, will restart to keep the pressure/volume constant, so what you say suggests that kind of situation which, if true, would be easy to fix once isolated. But who knows. Opening up the rear compartment is something I would leave to Tesla service.

I suspect that you are hearing the cooling system.

Nope. Cooling on other end. This is behind I am familiar with the sound. Yet I think it needs to recharge to make some of the big movements. I use mine to show, and it mentions a recharge time in a warning to extract mode. I imagine it slowly fills. If one hears it running. You can go into service mode and see a very detailed look at the system. Check it out before a service ticket.

I do have a concern about the air system. Being through over 10% of my warranty already. Having an S with 275k I have seen my share of air suspension failures.

Thank you for this recommendation. I will check it out next time I hear it, although it usually happens while driving so getting into service mode might prove tricky (I didn't even know I could put it in service mode myself). Agreed it's definitely not cooling system, I'm familiar with those noises since I've been with Tesla for a while. Plus it's coming from behind the back seats which is right where the air compressor is.

I would think software could detect a leaky airbag, which means undetected leaks are between the tank and valve body. I'd say "spray with soapy water" but you must remove the bed floor to access this area.

There might be logs for the compressor duty-cycles, but not anywhere user-accessible AFAIK.

I’ll probably have the service center figure it out next time I take it in. It’s not going off constantly, just a few times a drive. Oddly, I scheduled an appointment for the dashboard clip and to investigate, and they emailed me an invoice that says they are going to replace the right hand passenger curtain airbag. I messaged to see what the deal is (wrong invoice, recall, or related to air compressor).

It stays on for a good minute or so, and sometimes even longer, but then stops. If I look at the height settings, the car is not moving up or down either.

It stays on for a good minute or so, and sometimes even longer, but then stops. If I look at the height settings, the car is not moving up or down either.

Yeah I started noticing this rumbling vibration yesterday on two separate drives. Suspension would still adjust fine and the sound just went away on its own. Added it to my service ticket for next week.

Spoke to a service rep today and he said that they have only one similar case logged. He told me to just keep an eye on it, and let me know if it becomes worse or more frequent.

I’ve been checking the ride height the last few days and noticed that when in MEDIUM ride height it’s usually around 10.1 or 10.2 inches.

So when the compressor comes on, the truck is usually at 10” so I think it’s trying to do is get back up to 10.1 or 10.2.

I was driving to the store this morning and noticed that the right height was 10” and the compressor was on for about 3 miles until it hit the 10.1 - 10.2 mark.

My truck runs the compressor randomly too.

One thing to note: if you adjust the height UP it will automatically remember that spot and adjust every time you pass there. The button controls on the screen are confusing… you need to tap the “forget this location” immediately after adjusting height up, unless you want it to adjust every time you are there.

Until I realized this was happening, my truck was running the air compressor way more often, as it was adjusting each time I drove that route. ?

You can also tap the “keep height until 25 mph” button if you’re just trying to ride higher for a moment. Confusing interface… hope Tesla sorts this out.
