Yes. I’m still running it this way. It’s a part of the car for me at this point I barely think about except to hit the GPS button on my auxbeam. (There really should have been a Starlink sticker in that kit) and turn it on when I lose cellphone reception.
No I have not noticed any deleterious effects to the car or the Starlink. I was worried it would overheat up there but it has never.
My advice is, get the strongest magnet you can for feet and make sure you put them on all 4 corners for balance and stability. Place it as far forward as you can. Mm from but not touching the windshield. I have never managed to dislodge mine off-roading or misbehaving.
Got it - thanks! Presumably just far enough back so as to not block the defroster vent. :)

There is a sweet spot. That said, I live in Phoenix, Arizona. Frozen mornings aren’t frequently part of my reality.
Not been an issue for me when traveling north.

what does your alignment say?
1769284184670-mv.webp

mine is facing forward tilted
Think due to the angled glass
I have to face it backwards and do the tilt
Then I’ll be in alignment
😁
My apologies for taking so long to reply.

Here's where I ended up... I was unlucky in that running the starlink from the USB ports in the truck would lead to frequent reboots (after trying multiple cables), so I got a LinkPower 1 to act as a UPS for it. I'm using the large command hooks that @raww1023 mentioned to hold it on the dash.

I'm pretty sure if the truck was upside down, the dish would fall out...but short of that, it's pretty stable where it is.

I started with a black cloth cover (I used a really thin stretchy athletic shirt fabric), but the dish overheated when parked in the sun today for about 90 minutes. I took that off and replaced with vinyl on the top; I left it outside for a while (surface temp got to 160F) and it all still worked, so I'm hopeful this will work better in the truck.

The LinkPower works great, by the way. It keeps power to the dish when USB power is disconnected, or reconnected - there are no drops. It also provides a power switch for the dish, which I like for my use cases, and can also run the dish by itself for about 4 hours or so (also nice when I want to switch off the truck USB ports, as they draw about 8% per day even when nothing plugged in).

That’s a very nice minimalist setup. I like it.
do you have a link to those command hooks by chance?

Thanks! TBH I'd rather have it on the roof, but the glass in my 2026 blocks the signal. I also like your magnet setup, but given the LinkPower, it wasn't going to work as well for me.

Here's the command hooks - https://www.amazon.com/Command-Damage-Free-Hanging-Adhesive-Organization/dp/B079PD1VT2?th=1

They sell 1-packs at Home Depot also (https://www.homedepot.com/p/Command..._-202576050-_-1-_-n/a-_-n/a-_-n/a-_-n/a-_-n/a)

Cool. So you’re using two of them.
I had the same issue with the USB’s and mine now runs off of my frunk power feed along with my fridge. The advantage here is that they can both be left on with minimal impact on the cars consumption because it can go to sleep. They are both controlled by my Auxbeam switch. The button that says “GPS” is for the Starlink.
The reason mine moved off the roof is not as good. I installed this fancy electrochromic glass with lights which made that position no longer possible.

Oh that's a nice setup you've got for the power!

Haha - that's a pretty good reason...that looks awesome!

do those hooks slot into something? the gap between the front and back of the dash?

I'm happy to report that the BASENOR windshield sunshade (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DRNX51FK?th=1) does not seem to interfere with a dashboard-mounted starlink. I just got the shade, and deployed it, and I'm still getting a good signal. I'm guessing it uses a bit more power, but it's a rainy day so hard to get a good baseline to tell for sure.

I'm super happy about this - perfect for camping!
