For me there is nothing interesting about it. It is purely practical. People accidentally drop things, and sometimes when they do they drop them onto the screens or the screens themselves drop. In some cases, this saves the person from having the device's screen ruined, which is far more expensive than replacing a sacrificial protector. Accidents happen. It's like cheap screen insurance.

Additionally, as noted above, screen protectors can cut down on the appearance of fingerprints. Since we all have witnessed the wraps on the vehicle as a whole, many of which were inspired by wanting to reduce fingerprints, I personally see this as an obvious extension of the same concept. There is no fascination. I personally find it rather banal, rather than interesting.

To each their own.

Cheers

Really interested to see what Tesla says. I had an object on center arm rest. Hard stop. It flew into screen. No damage. Any other object like something heavy and or metal would fly at screen and hit the bottom or middle would be my thoughts so:

I went and tested on a tennis ball sitting on a small rubber donut. ? 45mph and hard stop. Ball would hit lower portion of screen each time.

Like I said. Will be interested in outcome. Not saying OP had the above happen, but I think that is what Tesla is going to say. You broke it. It's not like a windshield where we can see a heavy impact point, so it's on you.

Although it is a larger screen than in other Teslas, I’m pretty sure Tesla has enough data to know that in the absence of abuse (impact or chemical cleaning), such cracking is not normally an issue.

The SC looked at the screen and determined there is no impact sign and they will replace it under warranty (they did not have the part in stock - so have to come back)
