Hi Folks,
It might be hard to see on a photo, I've noticed that my front wheels have uneven wear and inner side of them eaten up. My CT is ~15k.
I scheduled the appointment at Tesla and they sent me a preliminary estimate of $275 for the service. Basically, two questions -
Anybody else noticed that on their CT?
Is there an option to waive those service fees, and cover the damage of wheels if one can argue that CT was not properly aligned at factory?

Thank!

I have 31,000 on my CT and just replaced the original tires. I had similar wear to what you are describing and the tech suggested I get an alignment. I got the Toyo open country A/T. They have reduced my mileage and are a bit noise. I used to live the sound of big tires on my Jeeps but got used to the quietness of the CT with stock R/T tires.

Thanks for sharing. And I expect you had to pay for the alignment, right?

I’m sure I would. I haven’t made the appointment yet. I’m going to switch out the tires for something different

I have 12k on mine and just realized the fronts are bald. Rear still has 40-50%. I’m getting 2 new ones put on today and debating an alignment.

For most of my cars I get a lifetime alignment at Firestone. It’s only like 200 and I go every 3 months. A bit hesitant for the truck since it’s so different.

Here is a trick that I learned at Tesla recently. Alligment costs $275, but they also have alignment check for $145. So, if it's not needed you only pay 145. if needed then still 275.
In my case, the notes are saying that they adjusted toes but somehow they didn't charge $275 :)

They also told me that I have to rotate wheel every 6k miles.

Alignment check shows as 275 for me in the app. I also can’t imagine that they wouldn’t need alignment after any period of time driving but lucky you!

I had $275 too and didn't accept the payment in the app. I discussed that in person when I came in and they found that option.

I've seen many vehicles leave the factory with less than ideal alignment. The CT requires a multi-step process to ensure that the alignment is set properly which begins with a ride height calibration. I've performed a few alignments on the CTs and they all were out of spec. My vehicle was on the alignment rack within 300 miles and both the front and rear toe was at less than ideal settings. I have 11k miles and the at my latest rotation the tire wear was measured across all tires between 7 & 8mm. (rotation every 5k)

When you have yours aligned you may want to inquire what precision they adjust to, we use degrees/minutes which provides more precision.

I agree. I found a regular alignment print inside the car with parameters before and after. Certainly it was out of spec when I brought the car.

Most vehicles come with alignment off. Recommend having checked. Worth the cost.

Does the alignment get done with the ride height in low? How much negative camber does Tesla call for? Seems like in low mode they have too much negative camber, but I’m guessing Tesla does this to keep the truck stable and is ok with sacrificing tire life.

This is super helpful.

I’m having my alignment checked tomorrow at Tesla. I hope they do the alignment procedure correctly.

Ride height is medium for alignment with -0.7 front -1.0 rear camber

It seems like the alignment should be performed in low, since the truck puts itself in low when doing highway speeds. Majority of tire wear will happen at highway speeds.

I’d be curious to see how much -camber it has in low. Maybe -2 degrees or more?
