Cyberbeast Letdown

Can’t help but be letdown by the Cyberbeast.
I would have had no problem plunking down 100k for the current Cyberbeast variant if it just had 500+ miles.

Extended range pack is just an ugly bandaid with too many compromises for 16k.

Maybe in 5 years the range will get there.

Agreed. I dont think the battery will get better anytime soon unfortunately. The 4680 wasnt as impressive as they thought.

Only good thing for me is that I don't really need 500 range. I dont tow often enough and not too worried about trips. I am actually really impressed in all the tech inside of this thing.

The tech is really impressive. I need to see it up close. Maybe my overall opinion will change.

Haggerty video explains the tech inside. Marques does the interior. And the Top Gear is more focused on exterior. Its weird each video focuses on different aspects of the truck.

I’m am pretty confident that many who claim they are passing on the Cybertruck due to pricing and received an e-mail to “configure your Cybertruck” this week would reconsider purchasing.

Down the road there’s going to be battery specialists doing upgrades for EV’s to keep them on the road and increasing the range, no different to engine mods on ICE vehicles.

Tesla made a decision of not doing a double layer pack, that would easily achieved a 500+ miles of range, but since the shrunk all the dimensions, that would either eat into interior space, or ruin the proportions by making it too tall for the length

It's a decision, not a technical limitation per se, as in, for a single layer pack to achieve 500 miles of range, the improved needed on the battery side isn't something that happens in 4 years, we are talking a 47% energy density increase

No 500 miles is an issue for me, but I can see what Tesla has done. With so many pre-orders, they will be kept busy for at least 2 years with the current lineup. AND maximising profits.

We wondered what would happen... Well... the obvious happened.

After that, I expect the dual and Tri price drops, and the V3 battery will probably offer, 'and I'm guessing, somewhere around 450 miles, which brings people like me back in.

Should have adopted BMW's strategy which is going with a taller cell, 46120, for applications that require high amounts of energy. Would have allowed for a single stack and 500mi of range.

It's not weird at all, it's a coordinated social front.

There is always a | Range | Weight | Efficiency | Cost | factors relationship. Without increases in energy density in watt hours per kilogram, adding range will also add extra weight and possibly more cost. I'm happy with the Cybertruck range because even with all its features it still has more range than my Model 3. The range extender approach is a great idea because it allows weight savings for those who don't really need it.

I will be interested to find out how the Cybertruck's efficiency data proves out, in how much energy per mile (Wh/mi) gets used in the various situations.

To me the Cybertruck is not any letdown at all, and I would say those who don't actuate the technology well are likely the only ones who are 'let down'.

Yes definitely.

I live in the northeast and regularly drive approx 170 miles to my second home.

In the winter this will require an additional stop to charge. If I’m gonna pay 100k for a truck it would be nice to be able to make a 200 mile trip without stopping.
