will/can FSD prevent the encounter?
No. And very specifically, it should not.

There was a story a few years of a lady in Canada who saw a animal in the road and she slammed on the brakes to not run over the animal.
Well, in her attempt to miss hitting the animal, she caused vehicles behind her to crash with serious injuries and I believe maybe a death.
She got cited and went to court, where she was held liable.

Most collision avoidance systems don't work over about 30 mph due to the possibility of causing more harm than they would help.

With deer jumping in front of a vehicle, you often get significantly less than a second warning.

That's someone else's problem.

-Crissa
No it is not necessarily someone else's problem.
See my other post.

Indeed, the majority of the time, if you rear-end someone, it is your fault. But there are exceptions. This can be one of them.

Insurance couldn’t quote it as their system had no part costs and the body shop insisted on having to pull it apart to be able to accurately quote.

It was 100% drivable. The only issue was the frunk could not open without binding on the quarter panel.

$13k parts and labor ?
I can tell you from recent experience the repair will be in excess of $12,000. The lights alone are gonna be almost $5k. The Frunk is $3400. Tesla will repair everything they see damaged by replacing it with a new one even if you don't want them too. Light bar is $2400. I got an extra with a tiny crack that I couldn't even see. Regardless, if you want the warranty intact and a Tesla Collision Center does the repair, everything damages is replaced with a new one.

yeah, I asked them to keep all the parts they replace for me. The right headlamp had just a tiny scuff and some other bits were similar. Very usable if ever needed in the future.

Good plan on keeping the extra parts with minor damage for spares!

Not really the succession of events, but close.

Emma Czornobaj was driving down a busy four-lane highway near Montreal late in the day on June 27, 2010, when she spotted several ducklings wandering helplessly along the concrete median. She quickly stopped her Honda Civic in the left lane, near the ducks. Witnesses claimed that, without turning on her hazard lights or closing the driver’s-side door, she jumped out of the car and tried to catch the meandering birds, which she planned to take home. Within a minute or so, a truck swerved into the right lane to avoid hitting Czornobaj’s parked vehicle. Behind that truck were two motorcycles. Pauline Volikakis drove one, and her husband, André Roy, drove the other, with their 16-year-old daughter, Jessie Roy, riding on the back. André crashed into Czornobaj’s car. Both he and his daughter died.

Yes. I have my light bar for sale as a used item. I also kept the front fender and probably will make some kind of art out of it. So sorry for your damage. However, bolt off and bolt on like new for your cosmetic damage. Got 007 repaired at new Tesla Collision Center in Nashville. Was very impressive!

I'm assuming that you just haven't gotten around to adding the kill marks yet?

LoL! No, but, no doubt the other car got the worst of it. I got to see some serious CyberTruck repairs being made when I picked 007 up. The gigacast frame is incredibly strong. The reps at Tesla Collision were kind enough to show me a little of the work being done on two CyberTruck wrecks. The average vehicle stands no chance in a wreck with CyberTruck. ?

I hit a deer this evening on my way home. It was a small Deer maybe 50 lbs going 45 Mph.. Truck is still drivable but frunk and lower front plastic took a beating! Just one Month Old and made the first payment today ! Oh well things can be fixed but just hate it when things like this happen. The deer was dead on impact so that was semi positive as it wasn’t injured and in pain. Can’t wait to see how long this takes to get fixed! This could be the First Cybertruck Deer Hit ever!

I hit a bear one week after getting mine. Maybe 350lbs. The truck his it dead on and it went under the truck. It felt like i hit a wall. Only damage was the plastic bumper and the energy absorbing material behind it. Didnt want to leave it at the shop so i repaired it myself. Patched the bumper until i get the new one from Tesla. I have lots of experience with collision repair so this was easy. I'm looking at a steel bumper in the future. Lots of deer and bear here. I was lucky had i been driving my BMW or Jeep they would have been a total loss. The CT is a freaking tank.
