I’m not talking about hitting a person when he runs across your way. I’m talking about the impact on a living body by that sharp edge, which basically acts as an axe. It’s scary to think what it would do to a pedestrian.
Then people that tends to throw themselves in front of cars need to beware…protestors need not beware….

Quick update:

Dropped the truck of May 6, and they opened it up and provided a supplemental quote to my insurance co. Total cost is estimated at 13,268.90. Yikes.

I also received this funny message from the collision center. Thought you'd all get a kick out of it.

I want to see their response!

It looks like Tesla needs to update their service software to account for the unique construction of the Cybertruck.

Inner frame is painted/ e-coated. Depending what was replaced, it may need some paint.

Damn! The truck didn’t even jolt when you hit the deer (at least not on the video).

Little off topic but the slicing through the deer reminds me of a guy I met at a motorcycle track day camp. He owned a Ducati Multistrada (it has a pointed beak for the nose). He was doing around 65mph on a backroad and a deer jumped in front of him. He hit it, was covered in fur and blood, but was still riding. He pulls over, realizes his front tire is flat, and his wrist hurt from the handlebars jerking. Cop shows up and tells the guy he legit cut the deer in half. The design of the Ducati saved his life or saved him from serious injuries.
Motorcycle deer strikes are very common. Any full-sized motorcycle, even one that is slightly lighter than average like a Multistrada, will typically cut a deer in half at 65 mph if it impacts the mid-section of the deer, midway between the shoulders and hips, the lightly constructed "beak" has little to do with it. Simple physics.

I hit a yearling going 50-55 mph squarely in the shoulder and it didn't cut it in half, it did kill it instantly, probably by breaking it's neck or head trauma as it wrapped around my Ducati ST4s. The pointed beak of the Multistrada would have very little affect on whether the deer was cut in half or not, it's all about speed, size and muscular development of the deer, and whether the center of mass is impacted. My friend cut a deer in half on a 600 cc sportbike with no beak, although he was going closer to 90 mph. Neither one of us went down and were able to continue our rides with mostly superficial damage (although I had a sprained ankle from the deer's hips crushing my leg against the motorcycle as it spun around).

Bringing this back to the Cybertruck, any 60 mph pedestrian direct impact of a legacy truck, with it's high hood line, is going to kill most humans. The Cybertruck, with it's lower hood line and steeply raked hood/winshield gives a fighting chance, implications here to the contrary notwithstanding.

Pedestrian impact statistics clearly show the most deterministic factor of vehicle design in terms of the outcomes of pedestrian impacts is the height of the hood line. Full stop! The wedge shaped Cybertruck gives pedestrians more of a fighting chance than the high hood lines of legacy trucks. If you find yourself in the unfortunate situation of imminent impact by a legacy truck, your chances of survival will be much better if you have jumped off the ground so your center of gravity is above the hoodline causing you to flip up and over the truck, rather than being plastered to the front of the truck. A glancing blow is always better than a crushing blow. In most scenarios this is simply not realistic, due to how high the hood lines are these days.

Good point about the motorcycles and hitting a deer. Crazy you and your friend hit one without coming off the bike and were not severely injured.

The Ducati ST4S, what a great bike. I’ve owned a 749, 1098, Multistrada 1100 (the OG Terblanche designed one), and currently rely have a Hypermotard SP (and an Aprilia RSV4 Factory, which is my track bike). Great to see other motorcycle owners on here!

Quick update: they found the subframe is twisted and steering needs to be replaced, so had to order additional parts. New completion date is 5/30. So, they'll have had the truck for almost a month by the time i get it back... They need to sort out their parts delivery process...

Wow. Subframe is twisted and steering needs to be replaced? I must have hit my deer at a different angle, or the deer was much smaller. My fix was just a right panel (bent), front frunk panel (dent) and a cracked bumper. A subframe twisting seems so extreme and more common with hitting things like a car. Yikes! Sorry it's taking so long...it seems to be the story these days with any Tesla. Shoot - Gruber is the only place that fixes my Roadster these days.

Pardon my ignorance……but if the subframe is bent, then that means that frame/unibody is damaged too, right>?

So, picked the truck up last week and it is perfectly repaired. Invoice attached. There was a delay because the deer knocked the wheel alignment out and some parts in the steering needed to be replaced. Then, they had trouble getting the alignment done. They were really upfront about the difficulties - they brought in a senior service manager from another collision center and then used my truck as the guinea pig to train the team on how to align a Cybertruck. Cost me a few days, but I'd rather have it done right.

Took almost a month for the repairs; but I'm smiling again as I have my truck back! I love this thing.

That's great!

Thanks for the update!
