I put down $100 on a Cybertruck a few years ago. Since then my posted credit card number has become outdated. I noticed it, and changed it to an active credit card. However, when I applied for a refund, the system still used the old credit card, and it never processed. I don't see any way to contact Tesla to discuss the problem. Anybody else have this problem?
I’m having trouble, my two brothers are also. We have $500 worth of deposit money due to us. We have received texts and emails. One email asked for our home address so they could mail a check, one email said they credited a new method of payment (different credit card than I originally used. It’s sounded suspicious. It came from [email protected] Signed by Cristian P.,Tesla Support Leadership.
If others are having difficulty receiving their $100 deposits, it might be time to think about a Class Action Lawsuit.

Can anyone explain why this is happening? Tried to call, but couldn’t get through. If an admin has the authority to intervene, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

I'd like to request a banned phrase for this forum. Administrator, if you are listening, please ban "class action lawsuit" . Thanks in advance. :D

In all seriousness(I'm only 98% serious above), your $100 reservation refund will appear on the original payment method, which could take a week or two. If you receive an email from someone '@tesla.com', it obviously will not be a scam(if the email is truly from @tesla.com).

I’m new to this forum, I can edit my op if you think I should. I don’t want to get banned on my first post. ???‍♀

This is what they wrote to me, see below. None of which is true. My brothers received similar emails.

I hope you're doing well. After reviewing our records, it appears that the refund was processed to the account number ending in 913, which you updated during the cancellation. The refund was submitted on June 14, 2024, and it typically takes about 3-5 business days to reflect in your banking records. Could you please check your account? Thank you!

Lol, I'm just kidding of course. ?

Sounds legit to me. I seem to recall it took a week or two when I cancelled a reservation way back when for the Model 3. Worst case I'm sure they can send a check if an issue with the original payment method.

Hello, I was trouble getting my $100 deposit back also. My problem was that after a few years, the credit card used for the payment was no longer valid. It flagged me as paid, but I had never received the money. I hand delivered a letter outlining the issue, to our local Tesla dealership, and I finally got my refund. Hope this helps.

They sent this too. I did give them my address, but then I got the email that said they credited it to a nonexistent credit card.

Hello Cheryl,

I hope this message finds you well! I just wanted to follow up on your request for your Cybertruck refund. To ensure everything goes smoothly, could you please verify your address? This way, in case we need to send out a check it will go to the correct address.

Thank you for your cooperation!

This is part of the run around my brother is getting.

He says: They have your money and won't do anything to return it. They gave me BS responses that don't make sense " check with your banking institution ". That sounds like a chatbot or Chinese hacker response.

hnmm, strange. if the orig payment method exists, i'd say the refund will will either show up within a week or so, or, if there is a problem, Tesla will get the bounce back. I'd guess if the latter occurs, they'd be able to use an alternate refund method at that point.

Took me several months to get a check for a canceled order, accidentally ordered 2 M3Ps. It’s a hundo, nothing to get all class action about. You will get your penny back, just chill.

I once deposited a check from a different bank into my bank. They later removed the money from my account, saying the originating bank refused payment.

I called the check writer for a new check, but they said the money was already removed from their account. I called the other bank, they said they never received the physical check from my bank. But my bank said they didn't have it. So where's the check? Where's the money?? Both banks were pointing fingers at each other.

Fortunately, banking is federally regulated. I had to call upon the Comptroller of the Currency at the Treasury Department to step on necks, and step they did. I got my money. Eventually, my bank found the check between someone's desk and the wall. Whoops.

The point is, the parties can't just lose your money and shrug "oh well, sorry!" but you might need to make an extended effort to sort it.

No, Tesla said that your old bank has your money and your old bank isn't doing anything to return it. Not sure why this is so difficult to understand or why you would think this is a scam?

Tesla sent the refund to the bank for the previous credit card.

Has anyone talked to that bank? Tesla (rightfully IMO) is saying you need to talk to them. A lawyer for a "class action lawsuit" is going to say you need to talk to them. Tesla can't talk to them on your behalf.

If the bank for the previous credit card returns the money to Tesla, then maybe Tesla can send you a check. Tesla is saying the money has not been returned.

You might check if your state has a "lost property" office. In some places (e.g. California), banks are required by law to transfer unclaimed funds from closed accounts there.

It's also possible that there was an unpaid balance due on the old card, and the bank has applied the funds from Tesla to what they're owed. Has your brother checked his credit report to verify the old credit card was really closed with a $0 balance?

All of this could easily be determined by "talking to your banking institution" as Tesla has recommended. If the bank says they sent the money back to Tesla, ask them for proof, and then provide that proof to Tesla to get a check sent out instead. You telling Tesla that your bank probably sent the money back has about as much weight as me telling Tesla that my cousin who totally won the lottery paid for another Cybertruck for me and I'd like to pick it up tomorrow.

The three of us each, individually , put our deposit on our AMEX cards . When we canceled our order we were advised the deposit would be credited back to our original payment. No bank, no check, no other credit cards are involved. A simple credit back to our AMEX is what they should have done.

Our cards have the same account numbers, but of course, different expiration dates. They are saying on mine, the credit was put on a different credit card that I requested be used, and gave an account number I never had.
I’ll keep your suggestion in mind.
Thank you.

This has been since the beginning of June, and the deposit was supposed to go back to the original method of payment. I don’t mind waiting, it’s not that big of a deposit, my AMEX. It’s just the way the strange emails saying they sent it to my card on June 14th, then saying they’ll send me a check, the saying they did when they didn’t. They are doing the same to my two brothers.
AMEX is on it.
Thank you for sharing your experience.
