I was having a great day at Pacifica, CA beach enjoying the view with my wife and kids when two individuals, a man and a woman, were walking past and decided to show a hateful gesture to the camera, and then proceeded to kick full force into the rear tailgate. The act was completely random and we don't know why we were targeted from all of the cars on the beach.
At first we thought someone had backed into their bumper. Then when looking out, we realized that one of the two had kicked the car. When the individuals realized our family was in the truck and they were on camera and police were being called, the individuals decided to run for it and left on foot up a beach trail.
Although there was no damage to the stainless steel, there was possibly $2-3K worth of damage done to the truck latch and tailgate requiring a future visit to a Tesla Collision Center. The tailgate now doesn’t close quite right, and I have to probably calibrate the tonneau as it takes 2-3 presses to close now. Sensor might of been damaged
I would like to thank the Pacificia police department for the fast response, as they came to the scene in 3-4 minutes. Afterward multiple police cars were dispatched and started patrolling the area looking for the individuals, but it looks like they escaped. Any info on the person to contact the pacifica police dept as it's an open case. Case #24-3222
