That's a ball joint. They pointed it out on the Munro video when looking at the rear suspension as confirmation of rear wheel steering.

Anybody knows what this box is instead?

There is also a pipe, the cast may include a conduit to route the air for a Tire inflator system ?

That's a good guess, that thought came to mind as well given the automatic tire inflation system patent. Although that pipe could also be a much less exciting brake line.
