So as the owners of both a Cybertruck and a model x, my wife and I both have a hard time understanding the difference in interactions we have with others when driving the two vehicles.
There is clearly more antagonism towards the truck than the model x.
Anyone care to offer an explanation for why this is?
It’s obviously not the “I can’t afford it” thing because both cars are similarly priced.
I think both are clearly associated with Elon and in fact more people have had time to form this association with other Teslas than the trucks.
So what is it about the Cybertruck specifically that rubs people the wrong way?

It's a lack of understanding of what it is. They only see how it looks and assume people buy them just to get attention and flaunt their wealth. Why hate instead of just an eyeroll? I have my theories there but to state them would get this thread shut down.

The Cybertruck’s polarizing design and cultural perception likely drive the antagonism you’re noticing. Its angular, futuristic aesthetic stands out sharply against conventional vehicles, drawing attention and potentially signaling a bold or nonconformist attitude that some find off-putting.
The Model X, while premium, blends more seamlessly with typical SUV designs, appearing less provocative. The Cybertruck’s size and imposing presence on the road can also feel intimidating, amplifying negative reactions.
Additionally, its novelty and media hype may make it a lightning rod for criticism, as it’s seen as a statement piece rather than just a vehicle. People might project assumptions about the driver’s personality or values onto the Cybertruck, whereas the Model X feels more familiar and less like a cultural flashpoint.

As other posters lead on to, it may be that the level of familiarity with the previous SEXY models inoculates the mass from the fervor. Also most people at least know someone (that they like) that own the previous models by this point.

I hope this isn’t keeping you up at night @hemiarch, 2:30am ??

I do have to say though the amount of irrelevant feedback I got when purchasing the vehicle was sad, mostly political, which was and still is concerning.

It’s the media/“news”. It’s more sensational to do stories on an “ugly” expensive car than people in Congress. Just like it’s more cathartic and easier to scream and flip off the car than it is to engage a congressional representative.

the design/shape of all the vehicles on earth are firmly imprinted in human brain-then comes Cybertruck-it throws a gut punch. People whose emotion is open & receptive to change will be skeptic but welcoming. So, these kind of people will deep dive and amazed of Cybertruck superior tech. Kids love Cybertruck b/c they aren't rigid yet. People were hateful to CT before EM tryst with politic.

The zombie sheeple that are told to hate and be violent towards Teslas aren't capable of discriminating between, say, a white S3XY model and a white Toyota, Audi, or Hyundai. But they can recognize the metallic triangle from their flashcards, and, therefore show extra exuberance towards CyberTrucks.

Come on man. This is easy. It looks like nothing else out there. The shape, the stainless steel. The X most of the time blends in until you open the doors. The CT looks so different that when you see it your brain cannot ignore it yet. You either look at it, or you pretend your not looking at it.

This is the best response. If you get mad at the haters, they win. If you smile and have a good time, it takes the wind out of their sails and most will sheepishly go away. A few may do some self-reflection. Another slightly less friendly thing I do is smirk at them and encourage them while openly filming them with my phone.
