I do not own a Tesla, but do have a CyberTruck on order.

I was wondering, if a person pulled a gun on a CT owner, took the owner's phone, then drove/stole his CT away, is there a way to disable the CT via a laptop? or?

Thank you for your responses...

Good question. For that to occur, the carjacker would have to know how to operate the truck. Most people you have to show how to even open the doors. The doors won’t open while the truck is in gear so you would have to put it in park, get out, then show said carjacker how to actually drive the truck (slide it into forward and reverse and hold to park). If all that did happen, you could track the truck in your significant other’s Tesla app. To be honest, the learning curve is not long for new owners who have access to thier trucks everyday. If you gave your phone to a stranger and said here you go, I don’t think they’d be able to leave the parking spot.

In the app you can set ¨Pin to Drive”…require pin entry to drive. Of course under duress of an armed hijacker best distance yourself from the problem. As mentioned car can be tracked if you have the app synced to an iPad Or other phone.

Under threat of violence/ harm:
1. Put vehicle in park
2. say "here you go, vehicle is yours"
3. walk away

If phone/key is not in vehicle, good for you and joke is on them. Regardless, any vehicle can be replaced.

If the bed vault is closed, this could provide protection against gunfire, if you decide to drive away. But that's a huge risk. Once some one is close to you in this type of situation, your options are limited.

Here's a sort-of feel-good story, in a terrible situation:

I can see my vehicle's location from a browser, since I've subscribed to Tessie. I can also do all the things you can do from the app, like put it in Valet mode lol, but AFAIK there is no way for the owner to remotely disable the vehicle.

  1. Don't be hero, just give them the truck
  2. Call Tesla, as soon as able, they can remotely disable the truck even if they have your phone.

PIN code to drive. Taking off your seat belt should put it in park. In a car jacking situation give them the truck and make space(run). They gotta enter the pin and that’s why you are running.

How long will it take them to realize they don't have the pin, though? It could just anger them and then they come around and hunt you down. Might be wisest to do no pin if you are in a carjack-possible area (i know it is ever expanding).

Set pin to drive and then they have to do much more to start the car because they have to get the pin from you.

My wife and I both have a key and a phone key for each Tesla. On occasion I have tracked her when she is on a trip just to know that she is ok, or when she is bringing food home and I am hungry. She has been able to unlock the car for me when I have been locked out (don't ask), so even without Tesla intervening on your behalf having a family member or friend as a user of your truck gives an extra layer of security.

Tesla vehicles are the least stolen in the US due to their technology. Thieves that target Tesla vehicles are much polished and trained that the average bad actors. Everyone knows Tesla vehicles are easily tracked and can recovered within minutes so bad actors don't target Tesla vehicles unless they are going to be sold for parts rather than joy rides or reselling purposes in the dark web.

I feel like the average car jacker just goes for the easy target. Gas car that they can jump in and take off. I doubt they would want to learn to drive a cybertruck lol
