It's totally dead, tried the key, card can't open the tonneau cover, can't open the tailgate, can't open the door. I tried restarting my phone no difference. totally dead. I have 59,000 mi on it so the general warranty is expired but the powertrain is still active if it is not the powertrain, I'm screwed.
i love how car companies tie warranties to mileage when mileage has nothing to do with the manufacturer’s defect that caused the failure. I predict someday car companies will compete on electronic hardware warranty length…but as of now, they’ll continue to shorten warranty on electronic things based on irrelevant distance driven.

I’m glad my home PC isn’t warranted based on miles driven :)

I see a number of these on eBay as well, no doubt parted-out from totaled trucks. However, "working fine before the collision" does not mean it is still functional lol.

Given the amount of work involved in the R&R, I'd need to be pretty strapped to settle for an untested pull over a factory-fresh original. To perform a functional test, I think you'd need to at least refill the coolant, and an on-road test without the air suspension is ill-advised.
Sure, I was giving a ceiling price for a broken one.
I want to do a tear down of the PCS and ACJB at some point...

conversely, can you imagine if Tesla used Megawatt hours as a warranty metric?

Sorry for the delayed response. I'm so pissed at Tesla right now and need to vent. I dropped my truck off last week for the same drive unit droning and grinding noise I've taken it in for multiple times, and continues to get worse over time. I've driven other loaner CTs in those times, and none of them have made the same noise. Further, when I dropped it off this time, the tech who drove it with me told me it should not be making that noise, and if it were up to him, he'd replace the drive unit. He explained that early CT drive units all made that noise all the time, but mine had newer drive units that insulated that noise, and I shouldn't be hearing it, especially only at certain speeds. So I dropped it off. Then I get the same damn standard reply. "We've thoroughly tested your vehicle...blah blah blah." So I called back and complained that I'm just going to keep bringing it back. Today, they called me and assured me they've driven brand new ones, and they all make the same noise mine does. When I confronted them with the fact that the loaners don't, I got a lesson that there's a difference between the 3-motor version and 2-motor version (mine is not a beast). No shit, thanks for the info. Even if the AWD were built shittier and just made more noise than the version with the extra motor, it still wouldn't explain away the fact that their techs tell me it's not a normal noise. So, apparently, they don't trust the people they pay to fix the vehicles. I'm just beyond aggravated. I don't enjoy driving the truck anymore because all I do when I drive it now is listen for and hear the noise that they told me was NOT normal, but also is normal and won't do anything about. Ford, Chevy, Honda, Toyota, name one would fix an issue after multiple complaints and multiple techs confirming the complaints. I've had them all, and they all had issues, but the issues were all fixed without having to argue about it over and over. Hell, at this point, they've probably spent more money repeatedly looking at it than a drive unit costs them to replace.
To say Toyota, Chevy etc would resolve it is not true. I recently bought my wife a RAV4 to drive+fill with trash. Driving out of the dealership i noticed a shitty hissing/gassing sound from the air vents. Several back and forth visits with dealership service, sales person I was told it was per spec, all models and years make that noise. Toyota knows it's an issue, all over forums, zero TSB's or revisions. Seriously dented my trust in them as a brand.

I'm a time traveler, and let me tell ya... Toyota doesn't make it long term in the auto market.

Probably still more reliable than any ICE truck. I had been looking at other brands for trailer towing. Nothing but problems from every manufacturer. GM has problems with its 1/2 ton gas and diesel engines. Gm/Ford Transmissions have problems. 3/4 ton diesels will just go into limp mode at any time from emission computer problems. Toyota trucks have terrible engine problems. RAMs have electrical gremlins. Suddenly Tesla isn't so bad.

Absolutely, the old nostalgia of reliability has been thrown out the window..

Yeah, I can actually. Or time for the time stuff and mileage for the mileage stuff.

Do not lump all ICE types in the same vain.

We traded in our 2004 Dodge Ram 1 Ton (3500) with added electric bakes for towing and a 8 Foot bed for hauling maximum stuff.

It had over 225,000 miles on it and the only issue for service besides normal stuff like tires, a battery, and oil changes is ONE fuel injector went south and needed to be replaced it's whole time with us. That was about $400 total from the diesel shop for the repair/part.

The early 2000's Cummings diesel's were rock solid and I had many a person want to buy it off of us even if it was 20+ years old and 200K+ miles. According to the Dodge forum for it, I just had it broke in and there were many with 300K, 400K and one even was over 500K with very little needed beyond normal maintenance stuff.

If I was not getting older (66 now) and more limited on physically moving my older body we would still have it. It could haul tons+ of stuff/equipment and you would not even know it. I towed backhoes, bobcats, and many large trailers fully loaded and it did not miss a beat.

The CT is a very good at what it is and I am sure fun to drive or be driven. But please do not lump all ICE/Diesel's into one group. You just need to do research on what to buy.

Toyota has certainly been slipping. Quality slipping and prices r

Update on this, if anyone is interested. I went into the SC and rode in a new AWD CT with the service manager (I wasn't allowed to drive their truck 🤷‍♂️). He drove it, and I honestly didn't hear nearly the noises that mine makes. We got back, and I drove mine on the same route. I pointed out to him the noise I heard at about 45 mph. He said he heard turbulence, not a drive unit. But when I accelerated, it went away. He still insisted it was turbulence. Then, around 48 mph, I pointed out the grinding noise I mentioned, and he said it was a normal noise. When I pointed out that the other CT we drove didn't make that noise, he said it was all in the way you "feather" the pedal. So, we drove their truck again, and he tried to mimic my driving. I heard a bit of the noise at 45 mph this time, but still not the grinding, though he said he heard it. He said they all make noises at different speeds, and he didn't hear anything abnormal in my truck. He said they would keep it and investigate the turbulence issue. I see that they have ordered part/parts for it since then, no idea what.

I told him my biggest gripe was the fact that I drove my truck with different techs at two different SCs, and they all told me the noise I heard was not normal, but then I would get a message in the app saying everything was normal. The problem here is that once a tech, who I expect to know what they are talking about, tells me something isn't normal, all I hear when I drive is that abnormal noise. He told me the tech's job is just to hear the sound you are referring to, so they can tell a senior tech who really knows what they are doing what the issue is, so they can determine whether it's an issue or not. He also told me he asked the tech who drove with me if he told me it was not normal, but of course, he denied saying that. He said, she said at that point, but annoying. If that is their diagnostic model, they need to tell the techs to stop offering their insight and leave it to the senior tech. Better yet, train techs who actually know what they are doing.

Finally, I'm all about efficiency, but lose the damn app for service information! How about having a human call and talk to you about what they find or don't find instead of texting back and forth like teenagers; that impersonal service really pisses me off.

Anyway, I'll guess I'll see what they replace for the "turbulence" noise and hope the drive unit really is fine and doesn't just stop working on the highway one day.

Absolutely not. Messages via the app not only leave a paper trail for everyone, but multiple people can easily review your entire case without wasting time on additional calls.

Business phone calls are horribly inefficient and I'm glad they are dying out. Tesla is leading the charge in this area.

We'll have to agree to disagree then. There is plenty of a paper trail in the service notes and invoices. Almost every substantive message I get from them regarding what's going on is obviously a canned, copy-and-paste, boilerplate message anyway. A significant amount of communication is lost in text messages, which is why it is not an efficient method of communication. Half the time, I'm wondering if they understood exactly what I intended to say, and I'm wondering about their tone when reading their messages; it's the telephone game on steroids. So much more can be accomplished in a 5-minute phone call where there is actual context and dialogue than in a text conversation with multiple service employees that spans an hour or more.

This gives me a solid clue about the typical business interactions you tend to have. I have received helpful responses when warranted. Then again, whenever I have a issue that needs attention, I am exceedingly police and get straight to the point with the best quality information I can give to them. It lets them know that I care enough about their time because I let them know which troubleshooting steps I have already taken.

Maybe you should consider describing your issues with full detail to Grok and asking it to distill it down as much as possible to save them time reading it? Phone calls are a huge waste of productivity. This isn't really a topic businesses tend to debate on because the research is pretty clear.
