Oh I can see whats wrong. In stock photo it goes to edge, looks like it even goes over edge. Which is what I thought. Thanks so much @loki for saving me the trouble.

Looks like the inside of an old inner tube.

Unfortunately the file on the Tesla.com site for the first image is not compatable for download.

hate the idea of plastic bumpers except for winter protection (no rust).....wonder what they'd look like with lineX on them.....adds a bit of weight but can make non skid, uv protected, etc....and they wouldn't scratch near as bad as basic plastic....but no truck so have to wait on that

I’ve installed them and the fit is perfect. Sorry but you's are not positioned correctly.
Edge to edge should mean there is only 1 position? There are large gaps along both sides
