subverting expectations. make people expect doo doo and then when it comes out. if its not 100% perfect but still better than the doo doo. people will be happy lol
yeah, it’s either this sort of “I know that you know that I know” strategy

or it’s silly

I agree that this is probably the case. They know they've got hundreds of thousands sold, regardless. So let all the haters hate and then look like fools when the production vehicles hit the streets and greatly exceed expectations. Jalopnik, Gustavo Ruffo, all the usual suspects spewing hate ("can't make it up a hill", "rear doors don't close", "laughable quality", "broken down on the highway", etc). They can talk trash in their usual echo chambers and then be shocked that the world loves this revolutionary vehicle that was supposed to suck.

some expectations of yours may need to change as well.... the tailgate gets focus on not being a flush line - based on what we've seen it isn't designed that way....it's purposefully offset, probably for a mechanical or seal reason. as for 'gaps' between panels, they don't need to be nearly invisible - just consistent.

People should not lie to themselves about Tesla quality control. The Model Y is in its fourth Model year, having sold two million copies and the cars rolling out of Fremont still have among the worst quality control in the industry.

We have owned (2) 2021 Model Ys and now a third 2023. All have had unique, ridiculous problems and our newest one actually has the worst quality. It was delivered badly scratched needing 3/4 doors adjusted and has needed a new front drive unit and driver window motor inside of 5K miles. The loaner Model 3 I am currently driving due to service has 15K miles and rattles like crazy from all over the cabin.

The cybertruck ramp will be brutal and more than a few of them will get to customers looking like Franz's. It's just how they roll.
Our MY is a Fremont and it's great.

Lookin’ tight!

I love the fact the Cybertruck will not be adorned with badges or emblems of any type. Even the center cap of the alloy wheel/wheel cover will be blank. When you know, you know.

Also, the lack of exterior handles really helps keep the exterior styling super clean and uncluttered.

Hey everyone,

Appreciate all the weigh ins! Some were helpful and insightful. Others were unnecessarily flippant.

I do, however, fully retract my assertion about fit and finish concerns! Just saw the production model and San Jose. Everything looked tight and lined up! So the matte black one that Franz was driving must have been one of the earlier models.

I finally saw it in person. Looks way better in person. I did see the gaps people have been posting about and they pop out at you. I am a bit concerned about the panels and how they attached them to the vehicle. The gap shown, can't imagine if a rock from roadway or while off road gets stuck in between there or along the top. Water freezing, expanding between these panels. Would love to see the final pics of the Baja drive or Alaska, New Zealand and what happened to the vehicles panels.........
