So care to opine on what the 8/8 event is going to discuss if not the functionality that you just described as not deliverable with the current hardware?
8/8 will be the robotaxi car debut. They will absolutely speak about future software that can autonomously drive, but it's not there, yet.

I’ve been driving the hands free latest version on my Model Y. It’s pretty good. Still makes some strange decisions. I drove the same route twice and the first time it was almost perfect. The second time it kept changing lanes for no reason. Not sure what was going on there. I had to take over once yesterday when it freaked out in the middle of an intersection. Overall it’s pretty good but driving like a lost tourist sometimes.

No you shouldn't. Very bad idea. If and when you have to take over, the wheel should be in the correct position to match the direction of the vehicle.

Since the Cybertruck is steer by wire is it necessary to even turn the steering wheel while under FSD control. What would be the point?
Reassurance to passenger as interim step.

But correct long-term....not required and probably won't be....

But at the point that it is true Autopilot, that no longer will be required.

I agree that he likely spoke without thinking it out much. In principle he was right, but in practice if they do that it might be quite jarring to the driver to have the wheel suddenly move into position as they are trying to control the car.

We do not know the timeframe he was speaking in and there is likely a substantial amount of time between now and then.
