I had to go pickup a big item at a store that is 1 1/2 hours away (Highway, Freeway, and City driving).
FSD got me there, door to door.
Loaded the box - which was 6" longer than the bed, so I couldn't put the tailgate up.
Then - any attempt to engage FSD resulted in a "Autosteer not available" error.

WHY!!!! About the only thing it should loose without the rear camera is being able to detect someone about to smash into you from behind.

anyone tried something like this?
https://tailgatemirror.com/
Would it restore fsd functionality?
Not sure if it would confuse the computer or not since it’s technically going to be an inverted image

Yeah, it needs all its cameras. I keep my tailgate closed and just rest long items on the top of the tailgate sticking out a little. Obviously it depends on what it is, but I do that whenever possible.
Tesla Cybertruck FSD disabled if Tailgate is down 2324d53b-a60b-47ac-bd25-351149667614

It worked for an entire play set, so it will work for most things.

In my case, this was an 800 lb crate.

1st off: very cool wrap on your truck

2nd: this is by design, since the truck needs the rear camera for proper alignment between lanes. It's almost like if you were to cover one of your eyes then go for a drive. You can do it, but would you be safe?

Needed for lane alignment? Really? Even with like 6 other cameras, most of which can see relevant areas?

Since driving a pickup with the gate down is NORMAL OPERATION with trucks - this seems like a HUGE oversight by Tesla - since these are supposed to be useful work trucks.

FSD does not require the rear camera to activate.
It does require the tailgate to be "closed". And by "closed" it means both latches in the locked position. Which you can do with your finger, with the tailgate down.

Can you please show this in a short clip? That’s exciting news.

Yes. That’s awesome.
this came up in another thread but despite all our differences there is one thing we can all agree on, Mongo knows his $4!T.
Seriously though man, I’ll listen to your advice over the dweeb at the service center front desk any day of the week.
Thank you.
