Thanks! Is there an option to buy full FSD after trying subscription or is it a one-time deal to add FSD while buying the vehicle?
You can buy FSD anytime. But if you locked-in the price in 2019, IDK how long you have to pull that trigger.

Yes, I locked in when reserving Trimotor (day 1 reservation), but I don't remember the price. Is it 7K for those who locked it?

I had FSD (purchased) on my 2018 Model X. I loved the car but hated FSD. It wasn't so much that the tech was usable but the damn NHTSA Steering wheel NAG drove me crazy. Tesla's are fun to drive cars but when you have to shake the steering wheel with just the right amount of torque or get yelled at by the car and FSD stopped functioning it made driving more stressful.

In January of 2025 I bought a Model Y D and it came with 30 days free FSD. I started using it and although it had it's quirks, the steering wheel nag was gone and I found it useful especially on long drives. With version 14.X it had matured into the amazing thing is is today and I started a subscription for FSD.

My wife who hates driving has a 2024 Model 3 but she would never even try FSD due to her experience with me in the Model X. After taking several long drives together in the MY I finally convinced her to subscribe to FSD. That was 8 months ago and today she uses FSD every time she drives her car and absolutely loves it. She had always wanted me to be her chauffeur when I retired (she younger) and now I'm off the hook by slowly convincing her to start using FSD. It went from toy to necessity in a couple of weeks.

To tie this all together with the Cybertruck, the announcement that FSD would no longer (as of 02/14/2026) be sold, only subscribed, and that FSD transfers would end 03/31/2026. The fact that I'm 74, still enjoy driving but on the long drives we regularly do to the coast and mountains FSD had become a game changer. With FSD I could drive when I wanted to and let the car drive in the long boring parts with only mild supervision. With FSD ownership ending I decided to buy FSD on the Y.

As a 3 time Tesla owner (there are six Tesla's in the family) and 2019 Cybertruck reservation holder, I had thought the Cybertruck would be my last vehicle purchase. Six years later and after cancelling that Cybertruck reservation (I really needed that 100 bucks) and some youtube videos that had the Cybertruck finally FSD capable, on Feb 5th 2026 I finally took a 2 hour Cybertruck (it was the Beast) demo drive. I used FSD for the first hour and me driving the second hour. That drive was all I needed to know and I was hooked. I made the deal that night for the Model Y trade-in to Tesla, purchasing the Cybertruck and setup the FSD transfer all in about an hour (gotta love Tesla software technology).

Background (optional read ;) )
I should say growing up in rural CA, I was taught how to drive at 15 (actually younger than that as I was tall for my age) by my grandfather who owned a Logging Company with 18 wheel trucks, bulldozers and skip loaders. Under his watchful eye, I was allowed to drive all types of machinery and vehicles at will on his land even before getting a drivers license. For me, driving was a very serious thing and It was hands 10 and two on the wheel, always scanning my mirrors and knowing where every car around me was positioned and how they were driving. It was a game for me and I had become very good at it.

I've driven nearly 1M miles in my life and all those miles were without even one at fault accident ... well there was one on a logging road in the forest but that's different. In any case, a car that could drive me around safely and competently was unthinkable. I was convinced that I would be driving myself until I couldn't drive anymore. Giving up driving is a tough one for old geezers like me. Tesla and FSD changed all of that. I now know the technology exists that allows AI software, computers and purposefully designed and built vehicles to drive better and safer than humans. I'm glad I lived long enough to see and own this technology and I tip my hat to Tesla for making it happen.

Sorry for the novel length of this post but we old folks have more time to ruminate on things like this than you youngsters.:)
