Apologies if asked and answered prior.

With current state FSD deployment, I am curious on the following scenario.

A narrow residential street with cars parked on both sides. With the cars parked, bi-directional traffic needs to take turns to pass by veering into openings and waiting.

Does FSD?

1. Freak out, stop and cry to the driver to take over?
2. Calculates the approach distance and veers off in an opening to wait?
3. Determines the oncoming car‘s mass by make, model and approach speed to play chicken with the driver? Stretch evaluation to determine if the driver is feeble and fearful.
4. Other?

Right now it's 1. In a couple of years it'll be 2. The 3. will probably be possible only on Openpilot.
For 4. I hope for future that cars will have a direct communication protocol between them in order to solve situations like these.

? Thanks for satisfying my curiosity. While I am ready to use FSD for Freeways and major highways. Residential streets will take a long while and endless personal validation until I am ready to use.

Actually... it will wait and then try to squeeze through. It even has code to retract the mirrors to squeeze. It doesn't quite got it now, but it's close.

If the street is wide enough for a single car to pass easily, this maneuver does work without intervention.

It appeared to do option 3 with the Jeep. ?

For my work commute, I am confident on the Freeway and highways except for two areas on the 405 freeway southbound.

1. There is a bad dip in the carpool lane, I nudge to the right side and it is difficult to see by the naked eye. Wondering if the system knows this spot to avoid the extreme part of the dip on the left side.

2. Southbound 405 coming up on the 10 freeway. There is a blind curve that backs up just after the curve. So high speed and then quick stop. Wondering if the car slows on blind curves and positions itself on the outside edge to extend viewing distance around the curve.

I will be very attentive with the system until it proves a comfort level with various lighting conditions. I also plan to use the system daily.

Nothing to do but wait Impatiently.

Currently the FSD has no memory. All roads are new roads to it. Google's plan was to have all AIs map the way for each other, so they'd recognize and remember things like the dip. But clearly neither are doing that at the moment.

Sounds more 3rd Gen innovation than where state of the art is now. Kind of Apple-y innovation to expect from AAPL if they were ever to apply magic dust to cars.

Tesla has been cutting new trail while the industry awaits a cleared pathway to market. I’d be super peeved if I were Tesla to have an AAPL swoop in like raptor on fresh kill to feast with all its fancy innovations.

Doubts are that Apple magic dust sticks to BEV. Tesla are DOJO prepping for 3rd gen. AAPL hit the long tail of the hockeystick with monopoly money in its pants pockets. Ka Chink!

Apple's iPhone intorduction was mocked by the cellphone industry, since they had no experience in that market. But what the traditional manufacturers didn't understand was that phones were destined to become portable computers with a phone function, and not a portable phone with mobile Java bolted on. Apple's PC expertise enabled them to lead.

Similarly, BEVs have changed the essence of an auto from "body+powerplant" into an integrated, AI-driven "smart machine". And again, Apple has clear leadership in this regard.
