So says Joe Tegtmeyer in his latest video

I would love an early start to Cybertruck production but I don't expect any until late Q4. To be clear, Joe didn't say Cybertruck might start production in Q3, he said "some people" are saying that.

I wonder, in regular construction process the finishing takes as much time as building a carcass. Even if the industrial building finish is minimal, still the site looks quite far from completion. The construction lasts several months. How much time will take finishing here?

Some people is me.
I wouldn’t go public with that. Like most superhero’s ”Some People” may want to stay anonymous. There are a lot of haters out there:

Before you call me crazy you know you are one of my favorite dudes on the forum right?

Although the pessimistic part of me (9/10) tries to protect itself against disappointment by believing in delays, I keep my fingers crossed you are correct about Q3.

Even though the factory is still missing exterior walls in some places, the interior work proceeds. We've already seen test castings, and they just delivered a MY body for testing of the paint shop.

At the Fremont factory, there's a production line under a tent. The building does not need to be complete for work to begin.

Well we can be fairly sure we don’t have to worry about dust and impurities screwing up the paint stage. That should save a couple days right there.

Exactly. I worked at a solar production facity that had a tarp for a wall where we were installing machinery. They left the wall open to get equipment in, but we're already making panels before the building was complete.

And don't forget the Cybertruck that was up on the second floor several months back.

Q3 ends on September 30, 2021.

The last figure I remember seeing is Giga Austin being ready for some production sometime in October.

IF they do get some Cybertrucks out in Q3 it won't be very many.

Would you want the first Cybertrucks to roll off the production line? Not me... ?

Not sure how long it will take to get Cybertruck production line running smoothly, at least 6 months?

As much as some may want their CT's ASAP, I think I would be more comfortable taking delivery in spring of 2022.

I doubt that the cyber truck will be started in Q3. I just read an article stating that there is more equipment being offloaded in Austin that is model Y specific. Looks like they’re loading up to do the Y.

On an interesting note the article says that they are also going to be producing the model three in Austin. That would cut down delivery times of that vehicle to the eastern US area.

Tesla Cybertruck Giga Austin to start production of Cybertruck in Q3? work-pic-update-80x80

Tesla’s next United States-based production facility just outside of Austin, Texas, is just months away from initial production. Because of this, the company is gearing up for the production of the Model Y, and new photographs from the facility show the all-electric crossover’s chassis at the plant, all but hinting toward the imminent manufacturing of one of Tesla’s most popular vehicles.
The Model Y and Cybertruck highlight Tesla’s production at the centrally-located manufacturing plant. Several months ago, CEO Elon Musk revealed that the plant would also produce the Model 3, giving North America’s customers in the Eastern portion of the continent their own dedicated production plant, reducing delivery wait times. While it is still unclear which of the three vehicles will kick off production at the facility, it is evident the Model Y is being prioritized as a chassis was spotted at the factory. Still, there are rumors of what it could be there for.

r/TeslaMotors subreddit member u/NickoSwimmer said the photograph was sent to members of the Model Y Enthusiasts Facebook group by Tesla salespeople. This is unlikely, as the company has not yet started producing any vehicles at the plant due to construction not being completed. However, Tesla is likely working to prime production lines for manufacturing efforts, especially as demand for the company’s vehicles continues to skyrocket, pushing estimated delivery times into Q4 2020.

Several members of the r/TeslaMotors subreddit highlighted that the company likely manufactured this test frame at Fremont and then sent it to Giga Texas to calibrate manufacturing robots at the plant. This is a common practice for manufacturers that are opening a new facility. Companies will run tests like this to get automated lines calibrated with vehicles to ensure that the manufacturing equipment is running accurately. This process only expedites the initial phases of manufacturing and could ensure that production gets off the ground smoothly and efficiently in the early days of Giga Texas’ operation.

Interestingly, it is not a fact that Tesla will begin production with the Model Y. A recent rumor posted by @TroyTeslike on Twitter has indicated that Tesla will start production at Giga Texas with the Cybertruck, the all-electric pickup that has amassed over 1 million pre-orders. It has not been confirmed by any Tesla officials or spokespeople yet, but it makes sense. Tesla could be using the new facility as a way to kick off Cybertruck production as soon as possible, and the Model Y could start shortly after, especially considering Fremont is already producing the car.

Regardless of what vehicle Tesla produces initially, the company is evidently nearing the first phases of production at the plant. Tesla plans to begin production at the facility before the end of 2021.

This idea that they are doing these one after the other is a false narrative.

They are working on ramping Model Y production as quickly as possible.

The Model Y ramp is further along and likely to start production first, AFAIK that’s always been the plan.
