You’re way too kind! I just wanted something that worked and I was thinking I had to do it myself. Hemiarch actually bought one from me and should receive it soon. I’m awaiting his review.
I’m going to post the STL online with a list of things I used after I get Hemiarch’s opinion. Planning on selling the printed 3D model for those who want one and even a completed set with the chargers if anyone wanted that. I’m not a business, just a boy with a compulsion for things to work as they should.

That makes

I had a hard time deciding and almost got the air. I had battery life on my mind because mine was so bad. But I agree it’s awesome. I need the .5 camera also but next time I upgrade it will most likely be an air. Also a great size. Max is too big for me.
Battery life is definitely less.

My wife wanted the Air but she sometimes struggles to get through the day with a 16PM. I’ve never had that issue so battery life is fine for me.

I do miss macro once in a while, but I just use the Apple Magnifier app.

Scheduled and the technician is coming to my house to replace it. One thing I love about Tesla is that they’re always improving internal parts and we generally get them under warranty.
Hopefully yours actually gets fixed. I’ve scheduled my third appointment for the same issue. The first time they claim to have replaced the wireless charger.
The second time they said they tested it and said the following in their notes:

“Technician inspected the vehicle and verified the wireless charging pad was overheating when used for long periods, consistent with the previous service report. The issue was identified as a known characteristic of the current hardware and devices being used. There is going to be heat transfer from wireless charging. Depending on the length of time this is used and work load being put on the device being charged the heat can increase. No repairs were necessary as
this is a recognized behavior of the system. The technician confirmed that no further action is required at this time.”

It’s absurd, they recommended removing the case or charging the phone upside down, none of which work and sometimes overheats in as little as 10-15 minutes, other times up to 30-40.

My GF has a Model S and the wireless charger is never an issue and never overheats. And my Foundation Series CyberBeast has been having this issue from the getco and it’s supposed to be an acceptable characteristic.
Hopefully this time it’ll actually be addressed and won’t overheat and will charge.

Hey guys.

Although I'm not a Cybertruck owner (I do own two Teslas now), I did spend an afternoon this week on an extended demo drive.

Like most of you, my iPhone (17 Pro) got too hot to charge within a matter of minutes.

I know many of you have been hoping for a Tesla/OEM solution, but based on my experience with my other two Teslas, I can say with confidence, it's not going to happen.

What we need is something similar to @Sandman1962 produced... as the root cause is the air gap between phone charing coils and (flat) Tesla Qi charging surface. As long as there is an air gap, the phone will eventually overheat. No amount of backplate revision from Tesla will fix this.

I have a lot of confidence in this approach, as I already 'fixed' it in both my 2024 Model S Plaid, and 2023 Model 3 Performance. I took slightly different approaches to each, but both use OEM/Apple MagSafe chargers, with 3D printed frames, which ensure clearance for the camera bumps, and of course magnetic alignment for the coils.

These are pictures of my own cars. Although I don't have extensive step-by-step write ups, I can certainly share more specifics, or guide you to threads I've participated in on other forums where we've tackled this problem. Just to level set, there's not genuine plug-and-play solution that looks close to OEM. You're going to need a moderate amount of trim disassembly and some 3D printing. The Model 3 (first picture) is a bit more rudimentary, the Model S arrangement has a more sophisticated 3D tray - I helped collaborate with the designer. Both work 100%!

I'm here to help!

With the latest update you can just turn off the wireless charging pad if you want.

True! But that doesn't solve for those of use who need a reliable way to charge :)

EDIT - also with the Model S configuration, I actually use the 16V OEM charging pad power source to power the MagSafes, via USB-C buck converters. Very clean!

Would you consider sharing the STL? It would be awesome if it could be modified to support Apple's latest (2025 release) MagSafe Qi 2.2 chargers.

Oh yeah, I posted it on makerworld and have a thread on this forum somewhere… maybe search something like “3d printed MagSafe charger” or something like that.

I still use mine too, just mentioning it in case someone doesn't want it on and didn't know about the new feature.

I finally had this done yesterday. I thought the charger was causing the iPhone to heat up and no, it’s the charger’s heat that caused the phone to get hot. I told Tesla about it when they scheduled me to get my extra tonneau cover slat added and they said they would do it too. Drove it home for a 3.5 hour drive and the phone never overheat. It certainly was warm, but not enough to cause the overheating.

Is it still on gen 5 for the part they used or is it a higher Gen now?

What’s your VIN?

Mine 52xxx and was built in November 2024, so trying to decide if I should try to get mine replaced. It’s overheated my phone once or twice but hasn’t lately…I also rarely charge my iPhone on it for long periods of time.
