I just installed mine today (well, yesterday now). With some high-quality double-sided tape and basic electrical skills it is fairly straightforward.

Tesla’s official method for it needs to return to first principles, as they make it overly complex, but their description of the process is excellent.

I would trade out all of their complex chemistry for high-quality double-sided tape. If you remember, double-sided tape is what they slap on their spoilers to keep them in place. Attempting molecular chemistry with multi-hour cure times is fairly ridiculous, IMHO, for something simply solved with a $25 roll of high quality tape from Home Depot.

From what I am told SCs will not install off road light bars on non FS CTBs; I imagine once they are sold at the Tesla shop they will. Someone posted that they had an install on an AWD. That’s an exception but not the rule.

To OP: I would call SC to ensure they will install an oem off road light bar procured from other than Tesla. Will they be willing to install it not knowing the liabilities involved ( one they did not unpack and inspect).

It installed just fine by Tesla.

Then blew off on the expressway - just fine.

My current lightbar is bolted on.

I’ll 2nd the guy saying high quality VHB tape would do the trick…..possibly even better then teslas way. I’d buy 3m’s highest rated tape. There are a slew of thicknesses so do a little research.

If the bonding surface of the light bar is smooth scuff it up and clean everything with rubbing alcohol.

I think you’re crazy to try to glue that on. I had my first bar glued on at the dealership. It started to come up so I went back a second time and they gave me an entirely new light bar glued on and it flew off and I can’t believe I didn’t kill somebody in morning traffic. This thing is dangerous and it flies off the car and goes through a windshield behind you. You are liable. Double sided tape is not a good idea. And yes, I know there’s some incredible double sided tape.It adds a small gap to catch the wind even more so. Ask me how I know this??. At least the dealer glue gives a seamless airless surface for the air to go over. Even just the small gap the type tape leaves as a significant wind resistance. I would not be doing this myself, and I will be waiting until the dealer has this fixed. I am waiting myself.

Well I just got a response from our local Tesla SC:
Tesla Service: Hello, unfortunately we would not be able to install that for you if it did not come with your vehicle. - ts.la/inbox

You know the contractor toppers that are all white. The skins on those are held on by VHB tape. If you would be worried by the tiny gap fill it with black caulking.
