I replaced* a 2020 MYLR (w/ FSD and Acceleration Boost) with a 2024 FS AWD.

I had to move shelves that were in front of the MY off the floor to the wall so the nose of the CT would fit. Width-wise it fits fine.

*When I say ‘replaced’…I was going to keep my MY because I loved it so much. My intention was to drive it into the ground. Then I got the CT. After three months of not even wanting to touch my MY, I sold it. The CT is my primary vehicle and I‘m thrilled with it.

My wife still has her 2020 MYLR and intends to drive it for years. She might be tempted by the 2025 refresh, but only if they offer a different color. Her’s is the Red Multicoat which is lighter than the current Ultra Red. She can’t stand the UR while I think the UR is amazing, haha!!

That’s what I’m telling my wife but she still feels it’ll get in the way when she needs to do things in the garage lol
She might be right depending on which side it’s parked. You won’t be able to easily access the other side when garage door is closed. Several users in this forum park their CT outside. It’s a personal decision. I would any day take the option to park it inside though it’s super tight. CT is the only pickup truck with 6’ bed that fits inside 20’ garage, and not to mention the 11000 lbs towing and 2500 lbs payload . No other ICE truck can beat these specs in those dimensions.

I’m in this path, we have 2x 2023 Ts
We’ll change M3 to CT AWD
We’ll keep rhe MYP for we have it almost paid off and it’s a tremendous value, only need 2x Ts
I’ve driven the CT af least 10x times and I’m hooked, main goal is back off reading
We don’t park in our long one car garage/man cave
But you never know
the CT fits but we have a rear garage reno planned which will take up space in the long garage
I’ll have to extend the garage entrance
It’s a much larger vehicle than the 3 or Y
Go slow, get comfortable with the driving
Don’t want to hit anything ?

Wow, minus the motorcycle, our two stories are an exact match. I just DM you a picture of my garage to show you how my Cybertruck which i just picked up last week (and traded my 2020 model y for) fits along with my 2024 M3P. The fit is tight but it works.

I reserved the CT right after the announcement and then got a MYLR to tide me over. I had to tidy up the garage but it fits. I bought a laser parking guide but I don't need it. The cameras are enough. Got used to it pretty quickly and I only have 2-4 inches for margin of error (I could fold in the mirrors to relax that a bit). My model Y was one of the last made with ultrasonic distance sensors. I was skeptical that the cameras and AI could make up for that data stream, but in practice it's not bad. I echo what a commenter said above: the autopark function isn't great. I'm faster and smoother than it is. The data from the cameras displayed on the screen are enough help.

The CT AWD is faster and crazier than my Model Y dual motor. I didn't need the speed on that thing, and I certainly don't need it on the CT. It's fun once in a while, but I play it safe mostly. I have zero regrets about picking the dual motor over the tri motor -- it's already plenty powerful, and I don't need more parts that can potentially fail. Others love their tri motors and that's great. Just my thoughts.

As others have said, the engineers and designers did a great job. The software and electronics are top notch, for those of us who care about those things. Everything else seems old fashioned in comparison.

We had a X and Y and traded the Y for the CT. No regrets. The CT is easily the best Tesla to date, in terms of ride, fit and finish etc. Our main garage is very oddly proportioned...it's like a 2.75 width and 2 cars deep for half of it, like an L shape. The smaller .75 side is basically unusable even for the X much less the CT, due to an exterior man door on the side that we use extensively. We didn't have issues with length or width on the 2 side. Our secondary garage is 23' deep and it's definitely a tighter squeeze but the front camera greatly reduces anxiety there.

If you have a little extra width to play with, you can also angle the cars to the left and right a little bit as you're pulling in. We use that trick to get a few extra inches of space between them at the front.

TBH I was never a fan of the Model Y besides the price. We actually had 2 of them and got rid of 1 about a year ago for a used 2020 X. I am incredibly sensitive to the deep booming noise in the Model Y cabin over bumps and rough pavement. I've been in a 2022, 2023, and 2024. I could notice it in all of them, and I've tried all of the tricks with the hatch adjustments... The X never had this issue in the slightest and is a far more luxurious ride. No regrets on that decision either.

2 feet of extra space? must be nice!, I have maybe 12 inches 6 in front and 6 in rear, with a board to stop the tires so I don't hit the wall as I pull in, the cameras help but it's a matter of inches to get it where it needs to be?

Yep I’m within 6 -8 inches in the rear with about 12 - 14 inches up front to close the garage door and walk around the truck.

Good: My garage is 224", wall to door.
Bad: CT is 223.7".
Bad: Guess I'm gonna have to remove the garage door inside handle.
Good: I have an electric garage door opener.

Just moved to new home but old home worked too. New criteria for new was bigger garage for CT.

Old was tight getting in and out, but plenty long since it was a tandem 3 car with 2 single wide doors.

New garage is perfectly wide enough for 2 CTs plus a Y.

Hi Everyone,

Just joined the forums as I'm 90% convinced to purchase a CT but was hoping to get some owners' opinions on it.

Quick background:
  • I've test driven it (about a month ago) and loved it.
  • Currently own a 2020 Model Y (with purchased FSD)
  • We also have a 2024 Model 3 (w/FSD)
  • CT woudl be replacing my Y
  • I live in New England (Greater Boston area)
Questions: (in the title but posting here too)
  1. One of the biggest discussion / contention points for my wife is the size of the truck. Our 2-car garage measures 24' 7" (w) x 22' 9" (l). I've taken the CT's length and measured how deep into my garage it would go...and it would fit but leave only about 2 feet of space from the back wall to the truck.
    1. I'm not too concerned about the width as it's only a few inches wider than the Y and my garage width is about 8.3 feet wide (luckily, my garage openin isn't too narrow)
  2. For those of you who switched from a Y, what are your thoughts? Any regrets?

As for use cases for the CT, it would just be fulfilling the average crossover SUV owner's use cases. The only real reasons where I'd need the 6' bed is for: hauling my motorcycle to the race track (would be a lot easier than towing my small trailer with the Y), the occasional times when we need to haul some big items.
If you are transferring FSD, make darn sure you don't sell your MY BEFORE finishing the purchase of the Cybertruck... Even if Tesla tells you on the App "FSD has transferred"... Because if you believe them when they text that and sell the Model Y, you'll lose FSD.

Ask me how I know. It's been a year, and I'm still pissed.

Ohhh, THANK YOU for mentioning this because this is one the the things I’m nervous about.

I’ll be trading in my Y to Tesla the same day I I take delivery (this Tuesday).

It sounds like you traded your car in to Tesla? What should I do during delivery to guarantee I get FSD transferred?

It sounds like you’re saying the process should be: complete delivery of CT (ie I can see it in my app as an owned vehicle), then allow Tesla to process my trade in?

my hope is to be able to do a software update during delivery and see FSD get installed on the CT but I don’t think that will happen (since the service centers can’t control if FSD gets pushed?).

Now, I know mobile service was able to repush and existing FSD build to my wife’s model 3 when the map tiles didn’t load. That was instant.

It may be automatic when trading it in to Tesla. We sold our Model Y to a local dealership.
I put our timeline below. BLUF: Rep told us that FSD had transferred but he must have meant the paperwork approval for the transfer was done. We thought he meant that FSD was already swapped to the new car and that we could then go ahead and sell the old one even though we hadn't picked up the new one (we DID pay for it already though).

So, we paid for the new one in whole on 28 July 2023 and then sold the old one 15 August 2023, 2+ weeks later, but, because we hadn't taken delivery of the new one yet, FSD didn't take.

We later got a letter from Tesla legal that said something to the effect of "FSD did not transfer because you did not own the previous vehicle at the time and that FSD transfer can take up to two weeks.

Still not happy about the situation but, I suppose they have me on a technicality...

19 Jul 2023: Ordered Model Y 2023 VIN: 7SAYGDEE1PA154XXX and put down $250.

19 Jul 2023: Motor Vehicle Purchase Agreement Accepted by customer.

28 Jul 2023: Paid balance of $53,380.00 for 2023 Model Y VIN: 7SAYGDEE1PA154XXX.

29 Jul 2023: Received text from Tesla “The FSD transfer has been completed!” At this point, we knew we were good to sell the 2020 Model Y.

04 Aug 2023: Sent text to Tesla “Hey, our delivery shows 5th-7th. Are we good to go? The FSD transfer showed we owed money for it but has now changed. Just wanting to make sure we aren’t doing something to hold up the sale. Is it in Iowa yet? Thank you, Xxxxx”

04 Aug 2023: Received reply from Tesla “Hello, you are all set. However, your car is still in Chicago and should be in KC 7th. Once there, it will take us 4-5 days to get the car to Iowa!”

07 Aug 2023: Received text from Tesla “Hello, this is Preston from Tesla. Congrats, your car is in KC and the process to send your car to Iowa has begun! It typically takes 4-5 days to send your car from KC to Iowa. The ability to schedule will become available in 1-2 days. If it is not…”

09 Aug 2023: Received text from Tesla “Hi John, it’s time to schedule your Model Y delivery! To proceed with delivery, schedule now at tesla.com/schedule/RN119563XXX”

14 Aug 2023: Received text from Tesla “Hi John, please reply ‘YES’ to confirm your Tesla Model Y delivery for August 15, 2023, at 4:00 PM. Reply to this message if you need assistance.”

09 Aug 2023: We set up delivery date for 15 Aug 2023 (it was later delayed till the 16th).

15 Aug 2023: Received bill of sale from a local dealership. However, their finance department was not available, and they asked us to leave the car there so that their finance department could complete the sale and cut a check the next day. Thus, we sold our beloved 2020 Model Y VIN: 5YJYGDEE8LF011XXX.

16 Aug 2032: We picked up the check from dealership for sale of 2020 Model Y VIN 5YJYGDEE8LF011XXX.

16 Aug 2023: Picked up 2023 Model Y VIN: 7SAYGDEE1PA154XXX.

did you once have a wrap or decal on your sail panels?
I have the same striping on mine. Maybe it's a Maryland thing.

I also have a similar two-car garage with two single doors. It's the worst thing ever. It fits in the garage, but it's too tight for my liking and takes forever to move in and out so that I have space on either side. I leave the truck outside since I have the older "Elon Signed" charger with the 24' cord.

Ugh, that's frustrating. You'd think Tesla would just transfer it bc your timeline all adds up. These are the situations where Tesla really needs to improve.

After reading your original post, I went and read the terms for FSD transfer. It contradicts itself by saying 'you must own the prior car and go through delivery of your new vehicle' but then later on it says 'the delivery rep will remove FSD from your old vehicle, it will reboot. then you should complete taking delivery of your new vehicle'.

What I don't get is: why can't they trigger the FSD software update on the new car at time of delivery so the customer knows they got FSD transferred?

We all know how Tesla customer support is...if FSD didn't get installed 1-2 weeks after delivery, I'd imagine I'd have to fight tooth and nail to get it transferred. Fingers crossed it goes smoothly for me this Tuesday!

Another area where Tesla could help out existing owners is by transferring the Premium Connectivity when replacing a Tesla with a new one. My wife had a 2021 Model 3, traded it in for a 2024 in October but was on the annual Premium Connectivity subscription....and it renewed 2 months before she bought the new one. So, she had to re-purchase it. If someone were paying month-to-month, it makes sense not to transfer it...but the annual? Come on! :)
