Keep us posted on your appointment Rob. My truck also developed this on the passenger side out of no where and it is now annoying. It is indeed a very subtle bulge that is visible when you look at it at an angle.

Ahh someone else with same problem! Yours is on the opposite side than mine but seems to be at the spot where the attachment is underneath. Can you raise your hood and check to see if the indentation is located in the center of the attachment to the hinge/arm?

My theory is that the way it is attached is leading to the deformation in the middle.

Curious if you all figured this out? Have the same issue on passenger side above the arm. Also on both sails where I assume it attaches to the bed, Like it’s overtorqued or something.

I'm not sure if this is related but I took my truck in last Friday for a few punch list items one of which was aligning the frunk (was high on passenger side and low on driver side). Got a call a little later saying I had a defective hinge that was causing the hood to have some odd flexing and they were going to replace. Still in shop until part arrives today so I don't have the work order write-up for that yet.

Ah, that is interesting, thanks!

Fascinating development. Apparently there is a minute imperfection that is too subtle to show up in a photo and that allegedly shows up in a video, but that the people who have taken such a video admit they are too "dumb" to post it.

I think we gotta go with common sense here and realize how dumb this is. It's a frickin' truck! Stop obsessing over the minute ways in which it doesn't reflect light perfectly. You could probably find a flaw in any manufactured item if you scrutinized it under the right lighting conditions.

Perfection doesn't exist, not even if you spend $8 million on a Mercedes-Maybach Exelero. Get over it.

My latest conspiracy is that you and gigahorse are the same person, posting opposite sides of the spectrum to rile people up.

It's interesting to see which side you'll take on an issue. You only seem to have 2. "My truck doesn't have that problem, so it must be rare", and "it's not a problem because reasons"

This was one of the first things I noticed when taking delivery of my truck was these dents. And I just sort of assumed there wasn't anything they could do about it. It's incredibly obvious in person, and it's difficult to photograph. But since people don't look at their truck through a stationary camera most of the time, it's a really wild take to say it invalidates the issue.

It's very easy to see imperfections in the steel like this. Much easier than a painted surface. It's just like how teslas are so quiet that they must be held to a higher standard for squeaks and rattles. It doesn't mean it's not an issue just because other cars also may have imperfections. It means the tolerance for imperfection must be lower, because the perceived imperfection is higher.

I noticed plenty of "imperfections" in my Cybertruck too. Same with previous cars, my Mazda, my Ford and my Volvo (they are just harder to notice because the paint is not as reflective). Imperfections are guaranteed in all mass-produced items, it's just a question of when it becomes a "mistake" and when it is normal. This sounds normal to me (and I take the claim that the imperfection is growing over time with a large grain of salt). Because I'm a rational person.

I agree with that. It doesn't mean any visible imperfection is defective. Like I said, all my cars have had visible imperfections, even the painted ones, it's expected.

It may sound normal to you, but I don’t think it is. This is my 4th Tesla over the last 9 years so I’m no stranger to imperfections and I have ignored them many times. This one developed after frunk usage. Just discussing it with fellow forum members not blabbing it out to the press or something.

Actually, silly posts on this forum is where the silliest FUD pieces from the press originate.

The fact that you claimed you're not blabbing it to the press makes me think that might actually be your intention. Because you brought the press up, it wasn't even on my radar.

I’m not returning the truck or anything, but it’s clearly not right. Talked to SC today and they agreed these are issues but they have no parts / panels to replace as they are all going to new production. They suggest I hang onto the truck and they will put a note in my log and I can take it in whenever they can service it quickly. Means I can go golfing Friday instead of the service center. Win win win.

Wow. That's the most deformation I've seen so far.

Interestingly, after sitting in the sun for the last week while I was on vacation the dent is gone. Which makes me wonder if it is temperature related. Or possibly related to using the frunk, I’ve cut back on frunk usage recently since getting the bed divider…

Temperature is definitely a possibility - the metal where there's a connection is will have more thermal mass.

CTE mismatch should be minimal. I suspect it’s either a tolerance issue at the bolt location for the panel, or a bad panel. Funny enough they are trying to figure out what the spec is right now. They gave me the old “more are coming in with this condition so we’re going to monitor it to see if it’s normal”. That being said, the truck is incredible.
